That ia the perplexing question As sistant Uunlted BUtes Attorney James Cole has to solve every once In a while when the Indians on the Klamath Fails Indian reservation , taks fire-water. . The latest case resulted In, the arrest of David Alexander, of Klamath Falls. . He k was taken into custody by Deputy United States Marshal William Griffith for selling whiskey to an Indian. This in itself would not be a crime were the Indlna a cltlsen but -because the government -has not yet allotted land to the Indians on the reservation, they are not citisens snd therefore not-entitled to revel In the glory of a morning 'eye-opener" nor ; the sleep-producing tonic of a "night-cap." This Is the law and that is why Alex ander Is In custody. Had the particular Indian to whom he sold whiskey owned land he. could have gone to Alexander, bought- all - the whiskey he ' could pay for and drank ' himself : to sleep. Be cause he la not possessed ot a section of -public domain,-he has no right o drink whiskey, nor has Alexander the right to sen It to Mm.,-.... . It is claimed that Alexander did and that the Indian drank his 1111 Indian fill. Therefore the question of cltlien shlpr whiskey-ship end the ship of state became Involved.
