BIG CHINOOK SALMON
To play a 11-pound salmon for three
quarters of an hour and finally bring
him to gaff and have the satisfaction
of having captured the second largest
fish of the season is a triumph which
came to Frederick W. Skiff, who during
regulation business hours presides as
head office man over the figures and re
ports of a leading department atore..
Skiff's splendid catch was made at
Willamette falls in Oregon City. At
1:10 Thursday afternoon Mr. Skiff, ac
companied by O. E. Wlghtman, started
for Oregon City. He was back In his
own home at 8:10 tha same evening,
with one of the record catches of the
season to his credit. The nsn was a
royal chlnook salmon, measuring 4t
Inches and tipping the scales at 89
pounda
Mr. Skiff used a nine-ounce rod and
a light silk salmon line, playing the
giant fish for exactly 41 minutes be
fore he could ba brought to the gaff
and dispatched.

DEFEATS EUGENE COLTS
The Barney Oldfleld auto meet, whloh
was planned for June 16, Is not yet a
oertalnty, owing to the fact that nego
tiations are under way for the sale of

Th Portland Automobile elub will
make a run this morning to a farm
near Latourelle Falls. A house has
been erected by the Auto olub on this
farm as a resting place after their jour
neys on that road The membera of

club at 10 o'clock.

raphy of the country over which their
trips are frequently taken.

sity of Oregon ' defeated th Eugene
Colts, an organized city team, this
afternoon, by a score of 2 to 0. It
was the best game seen here this year.
Hathaway stole home twice. Deneef,
the Colts' pitcher, is an Ann Arbor
man. He struck out 10 men, his he-
livery being the feature of the game.
Clifford struck out 7.
The batteries for Oregon were Clif
ford and Kelly; for tha Colts. Deneef
and Weed.
