L.-Finley Exhibits Views and - Lectures on Birds of . .: Oregon. . ' . ' " The spacious hall of ths Women of Woodcraft bnilding wss for th first time yesterday utilised by th Women's club for Its meeting. Th feature of the day was th lecture given by Wil liam t Flnley on "The Horn Life of Oregon Birds," Illustrated by th ste re opt Icon slides made from his famous pbotographa . . L. Mr. Flnley's csrsful observation and the painstaking cars with which he haa used his camera at close rang upon birds In their homes hss given him a national reputation. Ills photographs are sometimes obtained with th great est difficulty, as in the case ot th red tailed hawk, where th nest wss situ ated lis feet from the ground, and the tree without branches for 40 feet-. Only by felling enother tree In such a man ner that it would faU Into the branches of th first, and using It for a ladder, could th ascent be made. These almost Incredible labors show ths seal' ot th true sclent let. Equally Interesting Is ths closs observation which has en abled him to photograph the humming bird while rearing Its young, or poised over a blossom.- " " Mr. Flnley is quirk to catch ths hu morous side of bird life, also, and show a comical series of baby swt pictures, in which they look, as he says, "ss though aa amateur, taxidermist had poked th stuffing in with a stick." Th lecture wss thoroughly enjoyed by sit present. At Its conclusion refresh ments were served from a dslnty pink and whit table. . -The goodness of everything else at breakfast depends on the colTe.- (Schil lings Best. CHURC H. SERVICES . . BAPTIST.
