The local police are Interested In the fate erf William alias "Spot" Smith, who was taken to Salflm penitentiary Wednesday for two years for shooting with Intent to kill. Smith wus arrested in August by De tective Joe Day for personating an of ficer. Smith represented himself as De tective Day to Myrtle Collins and it is charged stole .110 from her. He was sentenced to three months on the county rock pile, but made his escape about two weeks ago. After leaving here Smith went to Oregon City, where he stole a skiff and when the owners followed him he shot at them. Chief of Police Burns ar rested the desperado, but not before Smith tried to kill him also. Smith was captured Tuesday and the day following pleaded guilty and was sentenced to Salem to serve two years. Within 30 hours after the crime was committed ho, had begun his term in prison.
