On last Sat urday after seeing our f r.nlly and also AV. H. Clark's s.ifely seated and started en route for the "Warm and Cold Sulphur Springs" avc moaned the hurricane deck of the ri Jin horj belonging to our friend, 0. P. Civs ap, and proceeded to follow. Wo arrived at the Springs about one o'clock, and found a hear'y meal in "waiting which all did justice to. The situation of this summer re sort is superb, beautiful. On th? east and south runs the be.mbiful John Day, on the west the Bjise road, aud the entire place id sur rounded by elegant mountain scen ery aud pine forest. The hous2 id guarded on -the west and south, by large fruit, flower and vegetabia gar dens, on tho north a cooling ste.irm and shady grove greet the eye, on the east w a lovely grasjy lawn tha stop 23 gradually d rvii to tha spring; and bath houses. The npringi aiv truly a- great curiosity, the sight ol which is worth many miles travel, to sav nothing of the benefit deriv&d bv bathing in them. In the hot lake or spiing the water is coni inu.iily boiling and bubbling up, whib bu two or three feet went is another ono that is extremly cold; thereby furn ishing the thirsiy with a hob or cold "tody" as best suits. From thee springs Humes are run to the bath houses where the bathers can have a red hot, an almost ice cold or a bath just suited to their feeling'. Many other sulphur springs are to touud on the ranch. With riding, fishing, hunting, m:n ic, &c, &c, a person can spend a few months very swiftly. On the prJSlbes are good barm, houjes, a large dance hall, and out-houses of every description. In fact it is one of the most desirable d dry farms we have ever seen on the Pacific slope, and then take into consideration its advantages as a summer resort and some good business man can make a "strike" by investing in the place. See "adv." in another column. After a few days stay and lest some enviou3 or jealous persons might say we were "hih toned" we all re turned home Tuesday, muc;h improv ed in appetite and spirits. A Liberal League has been organ ized at Prairie City with 50 charter members. Dennis McAuliff returned home from Ft. Harney a few days ago. He purchased while there a lot of goods. Mr. Wheeler, of the Mouumental, is in th6 city en route to San Fran cisco. Maj.' General W. S. Hancock and W. H. English, of Indiana, were nominated on the sepon I ballot by tho Democrats at Cincinati for Pres ident and Vice President. : Mrs. M. Ii.
