"We have had a number of persons tell us that we deserved great credit and a hearty support for the, interest wo have shown and'the amount of attention the NewsJisis attracted to wards Grant County duringjlie past eight months. Now while we like to be complimented as well as'fany one and to hear cheering words sioken of our paper, we do not take the praise all to our own door. "We are now going to have our sny. While we have labored, as no oth er editor in: this State has done, for the past eight months; having no aid other than that of our apprentice, has thrown a large amount of man ual labor upon us in addition to oth er duties. Although not a an edi torial has ever entered the News that was not written by us. we say, tak ing the above into consideration, that our advertisers are equally prais worthy with us. The first thing a man does that is hunting a new count.iv, or new location, is to carfully exam ine the advertising columns of the .county paper, and right there and then is the time when one merchant or business man that advertises in his county paper is worth forty that do not, and should receive patron age accordingly. For a man judges by the kind and amount of advertis ing a paper has what kind of a town and country it draws its supjjort from, and nine men out of ten will decide from the appearance of the advertising columns of a paper as to which county or town they will em igrate to to prosper. A wise man has said: "When the business men of a town fail to advertise extensively the' diminish the importance and trade of the place and jjcrmit more enterprising localities to take the latter from them. Although done for their individual interest, adver tisers should be looked on by the citizens ofthe town where they re side as in some sense public benefac tors, and they should be encouaged accordingly, and should be for this reason alone preferred, assuming that he is, of course, a fair business man. " Dear reader, after consideration, don't you think as we do ? if you do then peruse our columns and freeze to the men that advertise, for thev speak volumes for Grant Count in and throught tho News every week. They deserve as much praise, in proportion, as we do, for without their patronage we could not pub lis The Grant County News. "We learn that the Lewistou stn:e was ctopped near Pataha hy highway men, and robbed of Well., Fjiruo & Cos treasury boxes. The passengers, Mrs. Duniway and a chinaman, were not molested. After ceninr what they wanted, they allowed the stage to pass oo. ""Why. you silly fellow, it means that I'm your cousin, Doia Cri'iglitnn, situl that I'm glad, oh ! so glad, On, that I did'nt take your nvney, never to re turn it; and I'm more glad -till that, we have met before they made this dis covery, and that you loved me iu tpite of what people paid." He was so stupefied that he could only manage to say: "Why, did you know what they said?" She drew herself up to her fullest height and looked him proudly in the face. "Certainly, I did'nt know it, or I would have found out the truth and told you all, at the time you asked me to he waiting for your return. I always thought 1 was grandpapa's daughter for you know when my mother died, we left the place where I was born, and went to the village where you met me.'' He began to realize it then, but still you can imagine that he felt rather aw k ward. -"Andsj my little Dora is the heir ess ?" he began by way of prelude, but she interrupted him. "No, Con, I'm not. I don't wont the money, imr grandpa nor grandma don't want ir. We were happy before, and we can be happy again if " And then she stopped, the violet eyes drooped, and Con was himself again as he stooped towards her, saying: "Very well, darling; but I must take you, too, for security." Three months after the security was paid, and the golden link oi the marri age tie riveted the agreement for ever, while withsmilingscrenitv Mrs. Creiirh ton, senior, looked on, entirely forget ting her old advocacy of Gertrude Mow bray, and her old aversion to the little country girl whose "pn-tty face" had attracted Con's attentions.
