" of this city, and of Bandon, who, with his family, haa just returned to this city from there, after a successful packing season, may eventually move to that country, as his interests are growing rapidlv there. Some years ago he purchased at a nominal figure several hundred acres of land on the waterfront at Bandon, and later platted and incor Dorated a lame body of it into an ad dition to that city, 'it is Mr. Tim mons' intention to move his present cannery to the land he owns and put it on the waterfront for the purposes of commercial convenience and des patch, and hnild a business block up on the cannery site thus vacated; the fulfilment of these plans making his continued residence there practically imperative. After counting the shot last night Mr. Waterman found that the glass contained just 2063 of the small lead balls and as Miss Laws' guess was 2036, just 27 of bcina the exact number, she was awarded the prize. Over 500 guesses were cast among them several others that came pretty near being the right number but Miss Laws' closest oppon ent was Miss Annie Henderson whose iruess read 2166. There has been con siderable interest shown during the last week or so and for the last few dava the contest grew quite exciting. The doll is a beautiful affair being a China one, attired in the latest and most fashionable clothes in the doll world. It stands fully three feet high and is no doubt being shown by the happy winner to many admirers this morning. Don't Need The Money- City Treasurer Dealey has the sum of $1545 in general the fund, and the sum of $5149.34 in the street funds for which calls have been made on the warrants. Some of the warrants were called several months ago, but the owners of the warrants do not take the trouble to present them, though they are no longer drawing interest The city treasurer is natur ally desirous of having them paid out, as he wants to clean up his books as much as he can for the end of the year. ' Cut Hia Throat- Arthur Quigley, of Skamokawa, made a desperate but futile attempt to commit suicide by cutting his throat on Thursday night. He was brought to this city yesterday morn- inar and taken to St. Mary s hospital, where it was said last evening that his chances for living seemed to be exccl- Dr. Henderson treated ths frightful gash in Quigley's throat. With a razor Quigley had evidently struck two or three times, and left a single gash that reached almost from ear to ear. But ; he . had failed to strike in deep and neither the jugular vein or windpipe was severed. It is said that this is the second time Quig ley has attempted to take hs life. He is a comparatively-young man, and it is probable his mind is slightly de ranged, judging from remarks somt what incoherently made by the wounded man yesterday.
