A man should start out in life with s firm understanding with himself that he Is going to succeed; that he has undertaken to do a certain thing, and, no matter how long it takes, or how difficult the process, he is going to do it. He should resolve at the very out set that if he fails in anything he will make the best possible ue of his failure, get the best possible le-s- ion from it; that he will make of it a stepping-stone instead of a stumb ling-block. He should resolve that every ictback shall ultimately prove sn advance. ' There is everything in stating out with sn undrMamling with yourself that there Is nothing else for you but the goal, that you are going to get there sooner or later 'no matter what stands in your way. If you are only half committed to your proposition, however, if you are so loosely attached to your vocation that the least opposition will shake you from It, you will never get any where. "Success Magazine." THE RULING PASSION. The father of a family, all of whom were devotees of bridge and much given to talking the game and hold ing post-mortems over badly played hands, died rather suddenly. There was a difference of opinion as to whe ther he should be buried in the fam ily plot or cremated. In the course of the discussion the mother said weep- ingly to hr son: "John, what do you think?" "I leave it to you, mother?" 'I make it sp-spades," was her re ply, Ex. I Beware of Frequent Colds, A succession of colds or a pro tracted cold is almost certain to end in chronic catarrh, from which few persons ever wholly recover. Give every cold the attention it deserves and you may avoid this disagreeable disease. How can you cure a cold? Why not try Chamberlain's Cough Remedy? It is highly recommend ed. Mrs. M. White, of Butler, Tenn., says: "Several years ago I was bothered with my throat and lungs. Someone told me of Chamberlain's Cough Remedy. I began using it and it relieved me at once. Now my throat and lungs are sound and well." For sale by Frank Hart and leading druggist. PINE BLUFF SAFER. PINE BLUFF, Dec. 2.-A more hopeful feeling prevailed tonight when the river authorities predicted that the crest of the high wave would pass here by tomorrow night. It is believed that the water will reach one foot over the prevous flood stage, The situation tonight is dia- tinvtly better Knd if the fascines or willow mattresses hold until Thurs day night, the worst danger will be over, The north bank of the river coved raoldlv today giving relief to the south banK of Pine Bluff and the swift current not striking the endan gered ground with such force as formerly. The court house and Ber lins stable are now the principal danger points. Port of the stable collapsed late today. AH movables 'have been carried . away from the court house. The situations in the rear of the Hotel Jefferson are no wc:e than yesterday and hopes are entertained that this structure will be saved, Muscular Pain Cured.
