NEW YORK,;, Nov.: 4.-Election returns througfiout the United States at an early hour this (Wednesday) morning show that Taft il Ohio, is elected president by 298 ; votes, 13 doubtful. Practically no change is indicated in the house of representa tives. The United States retain the present f Republican majority.,, In diana has gone to Taft by 15,000 to 18,000. Bryan has apparently carried Nebraska although the Republicans till claim the state, Ohio has gone to Taft by 50,000 to 75,000. The re turns are .very slow. Toft has car ried New York City by about 11,000, . the first time the city has given its vote to a Republican candidate since 1896 when McKiiiley had a', small plurality. Taft received :, a greater plurality in New York state than did Roosevelt in 1904. Indications are 202,000 for Taft against 175,000 for Roosevelt, ; Hifgcn, Independent, re ceived 28,000 votes 'in Creater New lork. The indications are that Democratic governors are elected in several of the middle western states hat gave their presidential votes for "JVft.
