GARNER, Assistant Cashiei SALARIES HELD UP Southern Pacific Will Not Cut Wages as Contemplated DEFER ACTION TO JULY 1 If Business Conditions do Not Im prove in the Next Three Months Then a New Wage Scale Will be Considered. WASHINGTON.. June 25 -It is understood here that the Southern Railroad Company will not reduce the wages of its employees as was contemplated. Last March the comp any announced its intention of reduc ing wages at that time and numerous conferences were held between offi cials and representatives of the em ployes, the result of which was to defer action until Julyl. Commission er of Labor Neill ' and Chairman Knapp, of the Interstate Commerce Commission acted as intermediaries at these conferences. It was agreed at that time that if business conditions along the line of the railroad had not improved at the end of three months a new wage scale would be taken up for consideration. Several conferences between the same parties have been held within the past few days and as a result the pro bationary period has been extended for three months. It is said that busi ness in t.te south is reviving and at the end of the three months the Southern Pacific will not find it nec essary to make any wage reductions. SELLS ILLINOIS CENTRAL Stuyvesant Fish Will Discontinue His Interest In The Road CHICAGO June 2S.-The Inter Ocean says: While in the last few weeks Stuy vesant Fish, formerly president of the Illinois Central R. R. is said to have sold approximately 10,000 shares of his Illinois Central hold ings. With the liquidation of the balance of his holdings- a matter of 2,500 share which, it is presumed will soon take place, he will discontinue his interest in the road he began to build 30 year ago and. over whose destinies for twenty years he presid ed as president. The Fish connection with Illinois Central affairs, now .believed to be drawing to a close, covers a remark able period in the railroad history of the country and in .that period no figure was more conspicious than Stuyvesant Fish. The picturesque and long drawn out fight waged against him by Edward H. Harriman for the control of the Illinois Central defeat in which is apparently acknow ledged with the sale of stock, was only a type of the battles he fought through three decades. There la no need of anyone suffer ing long with this disease, for to effect a quick cure it is only neces sary to take a few doses cf GhamberlaiaY Colic, Ciislera and Diarrhoea Ekinedy In fact, In most cases one dose la sufficient. It never fails and can be relied upon in the most severe and dangerous cases. It is equally val uable for children and is the means of saving the lives of many children each year.
