Cleveland, Mr, Lounsbcrry ml Mr. Vatiirhn attended the meet ing of the Grand Chapter Eastern Star in Portland this week, going at delegates from the Astoria lodge. Mr. Logan, Mrs. Martin Foard and Mist Freda Foard left on Tues day for Tacoma to be present at the Commencement exercise! of the Anna Wright Seminary of that place of which Mis Lola Foard was one of the graduates. The party return ed to Astoria Thursday evening. The Sunday school class of Mrs. J. E. Ferguson will entertain the com ing Saturday afternoon and evening, v June 20th, by holding their second Vinnual Rose Festival. An interesting tihisical and literary program has been arranged to be given at both the afternoon and evening session, an attractive feature of which will be the rendering of an anthem at both sessions' in which about 25 voices will join. Light refreshments will also be served during the afternoon and ev ening and the floral decorations ar ranged for, bids fair to be both pro fuse and beautiful. The affair prom ises to be both highly entertaining and successful. The class will be as sisted in their work by the Misses Elmore, the Misses Higgins, Mist Jeffers, Mrs. A. A. Finch, Mrs. F. IT. Harridan, Mrs. P. J. Brix and Ms. J. E. Ferguson. Invitations have been issued by the Junior Class ol the Astoria High School for a reception to be given in Logan's Hall Wednesday evening, June 24th, in hnor of 'the graduating 'class. U. and a number of invited guests held a very pleasing and enjoyable meet ing at the home of Mr. Buscy on Franklin avenue Thursday afternoon, The occasion wn in the form of a farewell party for Mr. Busey who is leaving Astoria to reside elsewhere. Durng the afternoon the many who attended were delighted with the musical selection rendered by Mr. W. W.,Ridchalgh and Mitt Amy Ranncl. ' Dainty refreshments were served and a happy social time had by those pretest ' jt-'.fflsS The Pacific Orchextra and Star So cial Club have announced a ball to be given in the National Atociation Hall of Uppcrtown, Saturday even ing, June 20th, A dance was given last evening in the National Association Hall of Up pcrtown by a club known as "The Girls in Black." Stewart's five-piece string orchestra furnished excellent music and a general good time was had by all, who attended. The Joly Bees were charmingly en tcrtaijied this week at the home of Mrs. P. Kearney on Exchange ttrect. The afternoon wa passed in a de lightfully social way and the most de licious refreshment were served by the hostess assisted by her daughter, the Miss Kearney. ft Mr. August Scheweckau on last Sunday afternoon announced the en gagement of hit neice, Mist Bertha Krcibohm to Mr. F.mil Streichert of Hamberg, Germany. No date has been set as yet for the wedding, ft A beautiful home wedding occur red Thursday morning, June 11th, at 6:30 o'clock at the residence of Mr. H. Lienenwcbcr, 425 Exchange street when her daughter, Miss Ida Eugenia Licnenwcncr became the wife of Mr. Richard Harry Van Tuyl. The cere mony wat performed by the Rev. William S. Gilbert of the First Presbyterian Church and was wit nessed' by the family and intimate friends of the contracting parties. The house was artistically decorated for the happy occasion with banks of snowballs and asparagus fern, the dining room was made especially at tractive with a profusion of white roses and ferns. The rooms were darkened and the electric lights turned on giving a beautiful effect. The bride looked charming in an elegant gray traveling costume and carried bride roses. At the close of the ceremony a sumptuous wedding breakfast was served and the happy couple left on the steamer Nahcotta for North Shore points, to spend their honevmoon. Mr. and Mrs. Van Tuyl are very popular with a large circle of friends who join in wishing them much happiness in their married life. The out-of-town guests who were present at the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Nettleton of South Bend, Wash.; Miss Marie Kronquist of San Francissco, and Mrs. T. F. ( - ' ft Mr. R. H. Honstad of Everett, Wash., gave an illustrated lecture on the Holv Land last evening in the idun Hall of Uppertown, which was much appreciated by those who at tended. ' Mr. and Mrs. G. Zeigler entertain ed the mcmbcrt of the Astoria Phil harmonic Society at their home on Seventeenth street on last Tuesday evening. About 35 members were present and were "very hospitably en tertained, after the rehearsal, refresh ments were served by Mr. and Mri. Zeigler. , Rev. Thco. P. Neste, pastor of the. Norwegian Lutheran Church ac companied by Mrs. Neste, left on Tuesday morning for an extended Eastern trip, while away Rev. Neste will attend the 29th general assembly if the Lutheran church which con venet June 18th to 25th in Chicago. After the assembly Rev. and Mrs, Neste wll visit their former home at Decorah, Iowa. Mr, Nutter is the captain of the Point Bonita, Cal., life saving sta tion. The newly married pair left on Friday morning to spend their hon eymoon at California points. . , . Mr. Edward Dewey and Mrs. Eunice Swett of Portland, f Maine, are the guests of Mr, and Mrs, Earle Fisher for the summer. Mr. Swett is Mrs. Fisher' mother. ' t y Mr. I. N. Carman delightfully en tertained the members of the Thurs day Afternoon Club at her home oy Irving avenue this week. Mri, Frank L. Bishop entertained in a'charming manner at her home fin Harrison avenue Tuesday evening with a miscellaneous shower given In honor of Miss Ida Leinenweber who wa married on Thursday. Many of Mist Leinenweber't friends were pre sent at the hospitable home pf Mri. Bishop and thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment offered. -. The D. M. C. D. Club members were ' delightfully entertained on Wednesday evening by Mist Nellie Utzinger and Miss Jessie Sands at the Sands residence on Fifteenth street. This week's entertainment wat designated as "Fancy Dress High Jinkt" and the membert and invited gueata were attired in fancy cos tumes. Two little girls from school Clown, Toodles, Buster Brown, Lord Fontelroy, Folly, and Sailor Boy were charmingly represented. A mu sical program and games with dainty refreshments closed a successful ev ening. ft - The Shriners' semi-annual session was held in Portland las t evening. Mis Lelah Gilbaugh returned this week from her extended visiting tiip of three week through the northwest including Seattle, Tacorn, Vancou ver and Portland where she was an enthusiastic spectator a well at a participant in the rose festivities. She remarked that she has had a splendid time altogether. Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Bergman were Portland passengers on Wednesday for a week's visit Dj. Frank Vaughn and Mr. Otto Heilborn attended the meeting of the Masonic Grand Lodge in Portland this week. ' Mrs. Nelson Roney, of Eugene, is the guest of her nephew and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Raphael Bonham, on Sixth street. ' Miss Hazel Ripley has arrived down from Portland for a visit with her parents.
