Itching, Burning Skin Diseases Rout ed Without Use of Injurious Drugs. Great inventors often have boon praised for surrendering the secrets of their discoveries. Practically the same thing happened in the medical world in the case of Dr. Decatur D. Dennis, the eminent skin specialist of Chicago. Dr. Dennis, in his own office prac tice, discovered that pure vegetable oil wintergreen, properly mixed with other simple remedies was practically a sure specitic for r.cscma, psoriasis, barber's itch, salt rheum, and other itching skin diseases. Hut the oil of wintergreen alone was found ineffec tive. It required other mild ingred ients such as glycerine and thymol compounded with the wintergreen, to produce the real eczema cure. This compounded D. D. D. Pre scription positively takes away t lie itch at once the instant it is applied to the skin. This vegetable liquid does away with deleterious drugs so long used in an attempt to doctor the blood, whereas modern science has determined that eczema is first and all the time a skin disease. If you want to know more about the merits of D. D. D. Prescription, call at our store. We vouch for this remedy. Charles Rogers & Son. AT NEW YORK CITY Gotham Aroused to Keen Interest in Outside Politics TO PROTECT CITIES BIRDS Old School Ship St Mary's to be Sold to Highest Bidder Allen's Aim Pontin's Place Other Items of Interest Around the Metropolis. NEW YORK, May 25.-Summer heat has to-day wrapped Manhattan Island with all the torrid haze of July, waistcoats off and sleeves rolled up from end to end of the town. In twenty years New Yorkers have not seen the like of this spring with its early, steady spells of growing weath er. All suburban Gotham is out in full leaf and bloom and the great holiday exodus of the crowd to park and woodside has already begun. This year the guardians of what feathered life still remains in the city's rustic playgrounds propose to take firm steps to ward off the inroads of the growing horde of holiday pot hunters. Carless boys and ignorant emigrants have heretafore killed the few song birds about here by the thousands. To strengthen the arm f police and wardens, the workers of the National Association of Audubon Societies are to-day laying plans that should stay the hand of the destructive element. The metropolis can ill af ford to lose its few remnants of Nature. ALLEN'S AIM. That there should be strife over the last passing in of the chips of sturdy old "The Allen" seems in keeping with the whole idea of the battlesome old gambler to those who have fol lowed his stormy career. There was "something started" with bar-room fighters, gamblers and police at every turn of Allen's life and to-day coroner relatives, undertakers and nurses are in the midst of a glorious mix-up over his death. Giving usually better than he had to take, the beligerent "The" fought his way from first to second childhood, and no one man ever land ed on the police force oftener or to more advantage. Arraigned in court over two hundred times and raided behind the bolts and bars of his gamb ling castle almost every week of its i thousands of dollars worth of their time and eeled out scot free. For all his shady side, this gambler was chock full of the fighting blood which men must admire. POLITICAL PUSH With every eye on Albany and many a side-glance toward Chicago, Gotham is to-day aroused to a keener interest in outside politics than New Yorkers remember in many years. Only in rare campaigns of intense local interest has everyone here shown zest equal to that with which the governor has been followed in his appeal to the people. To-day men of every creed, color and political faith have banded together here to let all the country know what Hughes is doing. This Hughes Information Bureau is rallying thousands who want to talk for the govenor through out the country while he is busy work ing for them in Albany. That the country is calling for better know ledge of the man who reached the people of Orleans and Niagara is shown by the flood of inquiries which is almost swamping these headquar ters. Meanwhile the metropolis, that knows its governor is bottling up a boom that looks like business. PONTIN'S PLACE. If all the secrets of Pontin's snug little chop house in the shadow of the Criminal Court Building were made as pumic as the dice snaking ot Jerome and young Ryan to-day, a sensation ten thousand times as real and important would result. Not only public prosecutors and magnates' sons arc wont to foregather in the! nook-, and corners of this quiet refuge but judges from the bench, lawyers with clients ready for arraignment, detectives and those they should de tect, secret agents, solicitors and the influential friends of men behind the bars. The dice of Kate have often been thrown for keeps here in cosy conclaves, with much more meaning than the idle sport of Ryan, Garvan and Jerome. About Pontin's has cen tered doings which it probed and pub lished, would make the incident of the district attorney's little fling seem trivial beside them. ST. MARY'S SERVICE. Stripped bare to her three masts and hull, the good old school ship St. Mary's lies to day off the Brooklyn Navy Yard awaiting the highest bid der for her remains. New Yorkers of this generation and the last cannot recall a year in which the veteran sloop of war has not harbored her brood of budding sailormen in train ing off the East River piers. Into every sea of the globe this faithful old vessel has carried these young cadets who now number in their alumni as sociation several thousands Fighter Disturbed the Congregation.
