When ttie committee adjourned today John Norris, the representative of the American Newspaper Publishers' Association announced that he had Swished his statement, but -will be on the stand tomorrow as members of the committee desire to question him. The next witnesses to be examined rill probably be the paper manufac turers. Norris today described the Siternational Paper Company and Atvnted the cost of manufacture of LA PORTE, May I2-The evidence to establish the identity of the three additional victims of Mrs. Guinness was the most positive development of the day filled with contradictory happenings. Both the prosecution and the defense received setbacks from discoveries and revelations but on the whole substantial progress was made toward bringing the case to a state where it will be transferred to the courts. The reports of the four physicians who conducted the post mortem examinations on the bodies found in the ruins of the Guin ness home were given to a coroner's jury this morning. They failed to es tablish the manner in which the wom en and three children met their death and it is probable that the coroner's jury will return an open verdict re garding them. The proccedure in Indiana does not provide for the coro ner's juries to consider the individual conclusions of Dr. Mack. CHICAGO, May 12.-A despatch to the Tribune from LaPorte, Ind., says: , A complete solution of the myster ies of the Gunness murder farm is ex pected within 48 hours. The officials who have been conducting the search for the victims of the house of many deaths practically admitted this fact yesterday. They refused, however, to make known their purposes further than to say that the final step may be taken today or tomorrow at the latest. The mystery surrounding four of the fourteen deaths which are known to have occured at the place is cleared by the allegation that Pay Lamphere, the farm hand prisoner in the county jail set fire to the home of Mrs. Bella Gunness on the morning of April 28 and thereby caused the death of the widow and the three children. For this, if proven guilty, he is liable, under the provisions of the In diana state laws, to coviction for murder in the first degree as well as for arson. Indictments against him upon both these charges will be asked of the grand jury on Wednesday." As to the manner of death of the ten murdered persons whose bodies were uncovered in a little patch of ground guarded by closely woven wire netting the silence of the officers in response to queries as to the arrest of one or more accomplices provides the only answer. That the victims came to their death through the administration of a deadly amount of chloral has been proven. The places at which the drug was purchased during the last eight years have been found. That the inanimate corpses then j were dismembered either in a cham ber of horrors on the second floor of the Gunness home or in the basement has been shown to the satisfaction of the investigators. Two knives, one a six inch dagger and the other a needle-pointed double razor edged surgeon's knife, have found in the ruins. paper was greater under the consoli dation than under the individual own ership of the paper mills.
