The whole county U alive to the inKues and as the contest progresses the intercut will undoubtedly reach fever heat, The climax comes June 16, 1908, at which time the contest clones and it is then the popularity of each candidate will be determined and the seventeen young ladies to take the vacations, scholarships, watches autO' mobiles and piano will be made known. It is good plan to get re serve votes in readiness for that time, as you arc never positive of the num ber of votes your contemporaries have and a reserve may come into good 'play on the last day. Remember, that on Monday, May IB, a special ballot of 20,(KK) will be given' each and every contestant who secures five new yearly subscriptions to the Daily Astorian. Also 5000 extra votes will be given to each and every contestant who se cures 5 new 6 months' subscriptions to the Daily Astorian. Every one can win a special ballot If she tries. There will be plenty of time to get in five new subscriptions if a little effort is ued. Five thous and votes may win a free vacation and as another offer of this kind will not be made it would be a good idea to take advantage of this while the opportunity present itself. There it a ballot box In the As toran office where the votes may be deposited for any young ladies whom you may see fit to vote for. If you cannot bring the ballots to the office, end them in by mail to the Contest Manager and the votes will be ac corded to the young lady for whom they are intended. The votes are counted twice, so there can be no mistake as to the proper number of ballots accorded to each candidate. The votes are always open for inspec tion to insure a fair deal. HOW TO WIN. The easiest and quickest way to win is for candidates to ask their friends to prepay their subscription for 6 to 12 months. It costs the subscriber noth ing extra to do this and they are saved the annoyance of weekly and monthly collections. Dy to doing you receive a special vote ballot which it good any time during the contest- Ordert for the prizes will be given the successful contestants at the close of the contest; same may be used by the contestant herself or disposed of in any manner she may tee fit Any young lady residing in the v above mentioned territory it eligible to compete in this contest. Anyone who detires to vote in this ' contest may do to by ballots cut from the Daily and Weekly Attorian, or by special vote coupons obtained by subscribing to the Astorian. The coupons secured by subscribing to the Astorian may be held at long at desired and voted at any time up to the detired close of the contest, but ballots cut from the Astorian are only good for one week from publication and will not be counted if voted after the date printed on the ballot. Persons living in one district are not confined to voting for ladies in their own particular district, but may vote for anybody in the race. The offer affords the girls of As tdria and turrounding territory an excellent opportunity to travel or re ceive a business education at the ex pense of the Astorian. DISTRICTS. The districts will be divided at fol lows: First district will include all the City of Attorla east of Twenty second street; second district will in clude all the City of Astoria east of Ninth street to Twenty-second; third district will include all the City of Astoria west of Ninth street to city limits; fourth district will include all the towns in and around Ilwaco and Chinook; fifth district will include the towns of Hammond, Warrenton and Seaside. y HOW THE PRIZES WILL BE DISTRIBUTED.
