Mistook the Time
Upon the formal complaint of
Water Bailiff Scttem, four fishermen
were arrested early yesterday morn
ing for fishing for salmon iltirinK
the closed season, to-wit: Leo Pclos,
Michel Falangos, John Stati and Geo.
Tedus, all of the Clifton neighbor
hood. The men very frankly admit
ted the fishing but claimed they were
not aware of the hour, thinking that
the season opened with the day itself,
and not at high noon. The cases

man, and the men were fined in the
sum of $50 each, and will be given a
chance to earn the fine money at
their trade on the credit given their
plea of not knowing the hour.
Committee Well Received
The committee charged with the
collection of the funds to aid in the
work of securing the elective success
of the "tide-water fisheries bill" met
with a friendly reception all over the
city yesterday as far as they went,
and though it was not possible to
get an estimate of the funds last even
ing, it is safe to say there is no dis
couragement figuring anywhere
among the sglicitors. Among the
larger contributions of the day was
one of $100, from the Astoria Na
tional Bank of this city.
Ordera in Probate (
An order was made in the probate
court yesterday appointing A. Schcr
ncckau administrator of the estate of
the late A. D. Rockafcllow. The es
tate is valued at $100, and Mr. Schcr
ncckau' qualified in the sum of $300
in this behalf. Judge Trcnchard also

a commercial body which was finally
named the Warrenton board of trade.
