Miller and Draper, as a vehicle for the local talent in and out of the B. P. 0. E. lodge here, reached its finale in a positive blaze of glory. The cream of Astoria society was present again last night and from one end of the house to the 'other there was a ceaseless round of happy expression from the audience, stage ward. . . - -:. The personnel behind the foot lights was praccally the same as on Monday night, but the bill was va ried Just enough to be noticeable and interesting. The music was beautiful clear through the pro gramme and not a single hitch marred the perfect enjoyment of the two full hours devoted to its unfold ment, The numerous Assignments were fulfilled delightfully and with out the loss of a, moment's time; all went with the snap and regularity of a veteran troupe and had there been a third night of It, old play-goers must have been hard pressed to dis tinguish the amateur in the accom plished throng to whbm the constant storm of encores tended, last night. The whole affair, including ootn nights, was entirely typical of the oleasant thoroughness with which the Elks do everything they under take, and of the ready, popular sym pathy that always meets them from whatever audience they may have. The self-possession of the last one of the performers, and their adept rendering of individual work, was chraming and added fresh laurels to the happy record "No. 180" has made in this city. Fun was the predomi nant note of the hour and the eager auditors let nothing go by without spontaneous recognition, whatever side of the curtain it came from (and both sides were in good working order last nieht): so that laughter was incessant and delicious hum begotten of the easy familiarity in separable from such combinations as this, was notable everywhere in the house. , It is not possible to specialize by name and contribution in so large and varied a programme, but the sum of credit lies in the simple statement that everybody charged with the duty of entertaining and interesting the house, did their tasks tellingly and happily, making an indutiable success of the season. It is freely admitted that Messrs. Miller and Draper have conceived a very clean and clever bill and have trained their antlered colleagues to the point of perfection, and that they have masterly knowledge of Jheir business in all its details and re markable cleverness in handling and training large groups of amateurs upon short notice. Between their dexterous skill and fine bill, and the readiness and easy adaptation of the men they directed, in this case, As toria has profited immensely in sheer pleasure that will not soon be for gotten.
