CLASSIFIED ADVERTISEMENTS
The "BiR Thing", is now fairly
launched. There'll be something do
ing in Etkdom, March ,30 and 31 at
the-Astotja Theatre. Peace and har
mony now. prevail among the actors
and all jealousy has been obliterated.
"Jimmie- Johnson, the "coloratura
soprano" of the company has been
promised a Inaid and a cab to and
from the theatre and "Will" Schimpff,
the "Primma Donna" has been paci
fied with the promise of his name in
big type on the program and a big
cheval glass in the dressing room and
"Bill" Gratke, the dramatic soprano
of the troupe, will be given a pint of
Dutch champagne before each per
formance and he has been assured
that the spot light will play on his
handsome face and graceful form. It
has taken quite a lot of diplomacy to
satisfy all these stars and the man
agement has not overcome all diffi
culties yet, as "Charlie" Abercrorabie,
the charming soubrette, and "Gus"
Ziegler, the heavy contralto, are show
ing evidences of dissatisfaction at the
attentions given the others, but it is
thought that a milk bath or two and
a bouquet handed over the footlights
will make them happy. The line-up
of the "gang" is nearly completed and
the outlook is fine. Seriously speak
ing, no entertainment affords so much
innocent, unadulterated enjoyment
and appeals to so many people as a
home talent minstrel show, if at all
worthy and the Elks are preparing to
give one that will make all former
efforts look like thirty cents.
Predictions are freely made that
this entertainment will be the greatest
artistic, social and financial triumph
of the season.
CLYDE FULTON,
Who WiU "Shine" as Interlocutor of
the Elks' Minstrels.
The above photograph is a correct
representation of Clyde Fulton, who
has been secured as interlocutor for
the "Big Show." This is sufficient
evidence that that important role will
be filled with "eclat" (whatever that
means), and this gentleman will leave
nothing to be desired. This picture
was taken while Clyde was practicing
and shows him in his most effective
oose. Everything will be ready for
him, when the says "Gentlemen, be
seated."
THE NEW CACTUS.
Botanical authorities are discuss
ing, with lively difference in opinion,
the actual utilitarian importance of
Luther Burbank's recent production
of a spineless cactus. So writes E.
S. Merriam in the Technical World
Magazine for April. One California
physician, Dr. Landone, of Los
Angeles, is reported as having tried
the experiment of living and working
two weeks on a diet consisting almost
exclusively of the new plant. He felt
well, gained half a pound in weight,
and celebrated the end of the experi
mental fortnight by giving a cactus
dinner to a party of brother physici
ans. The soup was of cactus and
celery, followed by an omelet of cac
tus and green pepers. Fried cactus
came next, then a salad of lettuce
with cactus fruit, sherbet of cactus
fruit, and a drink made of cactus juice
completed the remarkable menu.
All this is suggestive as to what
may be done in a cactus growing re
gion when ordinary supplies run low.
The main interest of the situation
lies, however, more in its relation to
the food of four-footed folks. Some
agricultural authorities see . in this
new possibility of producing a cactus
minus armor the promise of an addi
tional forage crop to fill the present
painful lack in desert regions. Others
believe that the cactus, once disarmed,
so to speak, would, inthose regions
where it is most needed, be promptly
destroyed by hungry animals, and the
result would be its entire disappear
ance. It is an interesting question,
but it probably cannot be settled by
acedemic discussion. Practical ex
periment alone can demonstrate
whether the magician of Santa Rosa
has actually increased the world's
fod resources or only "done a stunt"
in fancy horticulture.
DAYS OF DIZZINESS.
Come to Hundreds of Astoria People.
""""
There are days of dizziness;
Spells of headache, sideache, back
ache; . Sometimes rheumatic pains;
Often urinary disorders.
AH tell you plainly the kidneys are
sick.
Doan's Kidney Pills cure all kidney
ills.
Here is proof in Astoria.
Mrs. E. Haggblom, corner Ninth
and Harrison streets, Astoria, Ore
gon, Says; "For 10 years I suffered
acutely from kidney trouble which
gradually grew more severe until I
was on the verge of physical break
down. I was losing flesh rapidly. My
back was so weak and painful and I
suffered from such severe dizzy spell
that I could hardly get around. At
last I was forced to take to my bed
and remained there for a long time.
My kidneys were irregular in action
and the secretions so profuse as to
cause me a great deal of suffering.
At last I decided to try a good kid
ney remedy. I procured a box of
Doan's -Kidney Pills and the results
that followed their use were most
satisfactory. I continued using them
and it was not long before I was
completely cured. I have used Doan s
Kidney Pills on some occasions since,
to keep my kidneys in good order and
can conscientiously say I have not
had any recurrence of the trouble

WRITES ECZEMA PATIENT.
Bed-ridden Sufferer Completely Cured
by Use of D. D. D. External Wash.
One of the most remarkable
Eczema cures recently credited to the
well known D. D. D. Prescription has
just been recorded in Chicago.
Mrs. E. Hegg, 1SS0 West Madison
street, under date of December 9,
1907, writes as follows:
"I suffered three years with Weep
ing Eczema. It started with a little
spot on my knees and spread fast
over my whole body. I spent hun
dreds of dollars and went to every
good doctor I heard of, but kept get
ting worse. Nothing would stop the
awful itch and burning.
"I had to stay in bed from the
middle of May to the middle of July.
Then I tried D. D. D. Prescription.
This is the 9th of December and I
am entirely free from the terrible
disease. D. D. D. saved my life.
"When I began this treatment, peo
ple were afraid of me I looked so
terrible. My husband was the only
one who would take care of me.
D. D. D. stopped the itch at once so
I could sleep, which I had not done
before. Then I began to get better
fast and now my skin is clear and
white, not a spot anywhere."
Just a few drops of D. D. D. Pre
scription applied to the skin brings
relief nothing to swallow or drink.
We vouch for D. D. D. Prescription,
