Taxoavers Pleae Note-
Tax Collector M. R. Pomeroy, alter
having taken legal advice in the
nremisc. ha decided to extend the
tax rebate privilege up to the hour
of 5 o'clock p. ra. on Monday next,
the 16th of March, owing to the in
tervention of Sunday, the 15th, and
the 1ck.i1 limit for such allowance.
Thi is an advantage that will be ap
preciated by those who will not be
able to reach the tax-paying counter
in hi office today.

at 9 o'clock. Thi will be the 22nd I
day of the present term and adjourn
ment is looked for this evening, or
on 'Monday next.
Rev. Hiram Foulkes' Lecture
Dr. Foulkes' lecture on Scotland
was delivered in the Presbyterian
Church last evening and wa well at
tended, in fact, the paciou church
wa crowded. Miss Rebah Hobson's
solo wa received with marked ap
proval. Mr. Foulkes showed showed
about 100 stereoptican views ranging
from Liverppl to Edinburgh via
Wales. The reverend gentleman
spent seven months at the Theological
Collcee in Edinburgh so a great
many of his view were in the Uni
versity City. The home of Sir Wal
ter Scott was shown and elicited much
interest. Rev. Wm. S. Gilbert intro
duced the' speaker in his usual affable
manner.
A Minatrel Stunt
The last two evenings of the pres
ent month are to be utilized by the
Astoria Elks in giving minstrel per
formances at the opera house, with
all the "aolomb" and success for
which they are famous. Thi group
is funny enough when they are au
natural"; and under cover of burnt
cork there is no telling the limit they
will reach.. It i bound to be a gen
uine success and everybody U so
crediting it upon the mere hint that
it ia to be.

Blunk' Sole Ambition-
Henry Blunk, the logger from Deep
River, who languishes in the Hotel
de Pomeroy, pending judicial inquiry
into the two charges at bar against
him, (eduction, and enticing a minor
child from home without the knowl
edge or consent of her parents, has
an all-absorbing ambition to marry
the young lady he ruined .after dc-
srrtinir her within Z4 hours ot tne
time he agreed to wed her; probably
upon the hypothesis, that as his wite,
she would use her influence to smoth
er the later offense against her young
sister.' At all events, subpenaes were
issued yesterday for several of the
Wdintr witnesses in the former case,
ami among them the principal, Miss
Ethel Millard; who, it is claimed by
hrr father, has renounced Blunk for
all time to come and will not assist
him even to spare herself. Prosecut
ing Attorney McCue intends to bring
the matter, primarily, before the cir
cuit court, and the processes are made
attack of la grippe, and though she
strove valiantly against the malady, it
overcame her, and she passed peace
fully away. In 1868 she came from
Connecticut to Oregon City, remov
ing to this city in 1880 and has re
sided here since that time. She
wa nnft of the best known of
the matron of the city, having
dwelt here for over twenty-eight years
The obsequies will be held at I:3U
o'clock p. m. tomorrow from the
home of Capt. A. E. Cann, No. 305
Grand avenue. The interment will be
at Greenwood. Three sisters and two
brothers in Connecticut and one
brother, Mr. W. E. Maynard, of this
city, and two daughters, Mrs. A. E
Cann of this city, and Mrs. J. M
Johnson, of Portland, survive her.
Will Depart This Morning-
After being completely overhauled,
repainted, and furbished up in nice
shape, the steamer Alliance will leave
the Callender dock this morning at
an early hour for Coos Bay points.
She arrived down late, last night with
lots of passengers and freight for the
run.,
