A special to the Tribune from Ensenada, concern ins the arrest of V. F. Walker, the ob econding cashier of the Savings Bonk of New Britain, Conn, says he went under the alia of Morrison while in Lower California. Walker confessed that he is the man wanted but say be only took $20,000 cash and $325,000 in securities. An offer with the necessary papers is now on the way from the East and he U prepared to identify Walker person ally. When arrested Walker had only $1.10 in his pockets. When the police arrived at the camp Walker bad his things packed and was apparently pre paring to go further into the mountains or to some other section of the country. He evidently knew the officers were on his trail. After being handcuffed al ker seixed a revolver belonging to one of the camp laborers and tried to kill himself but was prevented by the police, A WORTHY CAUSE. on the worthy cum of the Seamen's Mission. The building stands as yet in its undergarment and is very unac tractive amidst the other full dressed structures on the street, and this means is taken to procure, for the Seamen's Institute, building a mora attractive appearance. At the pivsent time the sleeping apartments are all filled, and the reading room well rmtromxed, , , The object of the entertainment Is worthy of all encouragement, and there is little doubt that a large audience, at the presentation, will testify to the sp previation of the people of Astoria of the efforts1 of those in charge of this glorious work, MAKING THEIR OWN WAY. Fine Musical Entertainment Being Pre pared for Seamen's Institute. Prof. Emil Anna will give a concert fop the benefit of the Seamen's Institute at the Presbyterian Church on the even ing of January 14th. He will be assist ed by the Norwegian made chorus and other local talents. Mrs. C H. Aber cnombie will sing the solo part to the Norwegian anthem composed by Mr. Greig: "Den store hvide flok vi ser," "The great white heavenly throng we see, eo famous in this country and Europe. Mr. Enna is making for himself a great name in this country as a musical genius, and it will be a treat to all musio lovers and the public in general Seenty Per Cent of University Students Work ia summer. El'OENE, Dec. 19. A canvass of the students of tlie University of Oergon just made show that between 00 per cent and 70 per cent of the I niversity this year are either wholly or partially making their own wny through college. The greater part of the earning ia done of course during the summer. The can vase, shows that, since the vacation is comparatively short, the men got em ployment in the harvest fields, mills, mines, and labor of various kinds pay ing good wages. It shows also that the engineering students find no trouble in getting work in their line. The Engi neering department lias a large number of graduates in the employ of the South em Pacific, O. R. N., Northern Pacific, and in the Government Reclamation Ser vice, and the majority of the engineering students are engaged before the session closes in June. A number of students are partly earn ing their own war during the sen-don. The University maintains an employ ment bureau undt'r the direction of the Registrar, but -it has not been able this fall to supply all calls nude on it for students to (work. M. a Shearwater may be ordered to the South .American coast from Esquimalt to search the islands off Chili for pos sible survivors of the eivw of the miss ing Liverpool ship Silberhorn, which was reported having burned at sea August 23 about 90 miles off the Chilian coast. There are slim hopes that the survivors may have reached the islands off Chili. OLDEST CONDUCTOR. CHICAGO, Dec. 10,-Albert M Staples, who, until his retirement six months ago, was the oldest Pullman car conductor in the service, died at his home in Evamdon yesterday, aged 70 years. He had a ivgular Chicago to New ork run over the Grand Trunk for more than S3 years. During the last 13 years his run Lad been between Chi cago and Buffalo. MARINE LOSSES. CLKVKLAXD, 0., Dec. 19.-The total loss to vessel property on the great lakes amounted to $743,000 for the sea son of 1907, according to figures com piled by marine men. Thirteen steam-. era and one schooner were lost. In 1900 44 yescls valuel at $1,029,500 were lost. ARREST REVOLUTIONIST.
