The motor schooner Berwick which ar

down from Portland yesterday afternoon
and went to an anchorage in the lower
harbor, to await the subsidence of
bumptious bar, when she will depart for
the Orient.
The French bark Briaeau, wheat laden
for the United Kingdom, is due down
from Portland todav on the tow lines of
the Oklahama, and will take the earliest
possible despatch for sea.
The British ahip San Miren, which ar
rived in from Australia, with a 3000
ton coal cargo from Newcastle, X. S. W,
on .Monday evening will proceed to
Portland on the hawsers of the Harvest
Queen today.

The steamer Daisy freeman was
among the afternoon arrivals from sea
yesterday, and she docked at the Cal
lender pier for a abort while before con
tinuing hep up-river journey to Port
land.
The steamship Breakwater, bound for
Coos Bay, with passengers snd freight.
ia due to arrive down from Portland at
o'clock tomorrow morning, and will
leave out at 6:30 o'clock.
The ofl tank steamer Lansing came
down from Portland yesterday forenoon,
and is in the lower harbor waiting for
the bar to moderate a bit before sailing
for the California coast.
The oil tank steamer Monterey ar
rived ia from California yesterday after
noon and went on to the metropolis in
charge of Captain Patterson, of the river
pilots' association.
The Cal lender steamer TVenons is

The steam schooner Yellowstone, lum
ber laden from Portland, tor San Fran
elseo, arrived down early (yesterday
morning and passed out on her coast

The steamer Northland cams in yes
terday afternoon from San Francisco,
and after leaving 84 tons of freight at
the Callendcr pier, went on to Portland.
The doughty little Delia, Captain
Joneu, haa loaded for the return vqyage
to iCeetucca, and will get away as soon
as the seas get down to her site.
The steamship Geo. XT. Elder is due
down tomorrow morning for San Pedro,
and San Francisco, with a big list of
passengers and plenty of freight.
The British eteamship British Mon
arch is due down today from Portland,
laden with wheat for the United King'
lorn. She will leave out at once. ,
The steamer Sue H. Elmore is dls
charging cargo, from Tillamook Bay, at
the A. & C docks, and will load out
again without delay.
ibe 011 tank steamer Asuncion was
due in from the lower coast of Califor
nia last evening, but will hardly make
before thia morning.
The steamer Alliance is due down
from Portland this morning, and will
leave out for Coos Bay points without
sny loss of time.
The British steamship Auckeneralg
left up for Portland yesterday at noon,
having arrived in from the Sound on
the morning flood.
The steamship City ot Panama, for
San Francisco, ia due down in the morn'
ing, and will depart for the Bay City at
0:30 o'clock. ,

Clement of the Supreme Court yester
day decided in an argument on a stated
divorce suit that there was no opera
tive divorce law in British Columbia at
the present time. He holds that the
law administered, during the years since
British Columbia joined the confederation
