Reports of shipping sent all over the world will record ships entering and departing from this point, as from the "Columbia River." where "Portland" has been called the shipping point heretofore. This is a decided ad vantage to this city in comparison with the former method, and renders equal justice to all cities and towns along the Columbia, capable of taking care of hipping. , Ttia excellent remit has been secur ed by Manager Whyte of the Chamber f Commerce, who wrote a letter to . The Guide," stating that Poillan.l was Bot the only point on the river where there is shipping. Is answer to his letter asking that either "Astoria, or Borne other destination than Portland ie named, the following reply, with a clipping showing that the change had already been inaugurated, was revived fjy the Chamber of Commerce" yesterday: "John H. Whyte: Your favor receiv ed. The copy of 'The Guide' sent us is dated August 17. Since then we have classified vessels mailing Portland, As toria, etc., for foreign ports under 'From Columbia River." We thought it ad visable to do that on account of incer tainty of ports sailing from. Ship slip out sometimes without being reported. "J. W. EXIPEY. BANDITS RAID TOWN. ABERDEEN, S. D., Sept. 18.
