The Norwegian steamship Hornellen,
from the California coast. Port Lot
AngWes, came into port yesterday an J
went on to Portland after a brief atop
here. Her commander. Captain Nel
on. Is well known at this port, having
serred for several years as mate on the
pilot schooner off the Columbia river.
He was made to feel quite at home
among his old ship-mates at the pilot
office, and went up the river with the
Norwegian consul at Portland, an un
cle, as his guest, and who came down
here to meet the steamr. Sh has ce
ment, at least as part cargo.
The steamship Roanoke made her
way Into port from the California
coast on Sunday morning and left a
few passengers and quite a lot of
freight for this place, going on to the
metropolis an hour or two later. She
will return down early on tomorrow
morning and will leave out for the
south at 6:30 a. m. precisely.

an Inmate of St. Mary's hospital here

The swift vessels Telephone and
Telegraph are to be utilized on the
Columbia river this summer, the for
mer on the Dalles run of Portland, and
the latter on the Astoria-Portland
run, beginning next Monday.
The Armerla went to sea and Puget
Sound on Sunday morning last, with
Commander J. P. Werllch on board as
the guest of Captain Gregory. This is
her first cruise under her new assign
ment to this station.
The O. R. & N. Company will add
the steamer Elmore to the Columbia
river fleet at an early date, to ease
off the Hassalo , which is being tax
ed pretty heavely in the freight line
this season.
The British steamship Quito coaled
at the Sanborn bunkers on Sunday af
ternoon, taking on fifty tons or more,
and left out yesterday morning for the
Orient, with her immense load of
bread-stuffs .
Toung Mr. Cherry has at last chris
tened his handsome new moter launch
He calls her the "A. B." and will
launch her the first nice day he gets
for that purpose. She Is a cracker
jack. The tug Sea Rover got away early
yesterday with the barge Rufus K.

being the second Tuesday In the
month.
The barkentlne Puako left out on
Sunday last for San Pedro, with her
big cargo of lumber. She goes direct
to Honolulu, her home-port, from
there.
The steamer F. A. Kllburn arrived
In from San Francisco and Eureka
late yesterday afternoon, and went on
to the metropolis without delay here.
The Lahanlnla went out over the
bar on Sunday with the rest of the bar
bounds, and set her course for the
lower coast of California.
The Columbine was among the Sun
day get-a-ways. She went north on
her Alaskan cruise and will be absent
three or four weeks.
The Russian ship Fennla was among
the out-going craft yesterday, leaving
for Cape Flattery on the hawsers of
the bar tug Tatoosh.

The noon express from Portland will

Railroad Company; Secretary W. P.
Martin, and other officer and direc
tors of the road, who come to attend
the regular annual session of the
board of directors of that line.
They will meet at the Bond street
offices early In the afternoon, and It
Is expected that the party will return
to the metropolis on the :10 express
this evening.
There Is nothing significant In the
vltfl of these gentlemen, aside from
the call for the routine session of the
directory, which Is held here Instead
of at Portland.
Auditor F. D. Kuettner and his staff
of assistants are up to their eyes In
the big task of boxing and wrapping
the valuable books and papers of the
department, all of which, are due to
leave for Portland, on the 8:20 train
Thursday morning.

has filed with the probate court his re
