There weiw more speeches on the subject, and finally when the question of adopting the investigating commit tee's report wa brought up, it was re jected, and on motion of Councilman Logan the committee was instructed to go on with the Investigation of tb matter, and to hire a stenographer to take down the testimony of the wit nesses . Belland moved to amend the motion to make the investigation eom mittea consist of the entire council, the Mayor, auditor, and city attorney, but bis motion was lost. Councilman Belland wanted the city attorney to look into the' majtsr of the $.V)0 bond furnished by the Astoria NVwa-Herwld, aa a guarantee of their printing contract, and inform the coun cil on the matter. The attorney stated that be would do so. The question of what the city would lo in regard to the contract for light ing the rity waa brought up at this time. The committee which bad con ferred with the electric light company seemed to favor the live-year contract. and after some discussion over the mat- tee, it was laid over for further consid eration.
