Edwin Oould. ttret vle-prssllnt of h !nirnatkinal Brotherhood of Teamsters, said In discussing the sit uation: 'The agreement which provided that there ibould be no dlacrlmlnatlon agalnat union men and alao for a fixed win achedule and abolition of the Sunday work la being violated right and left " "Not only la It violated In all aa aentlal featurea, but aome employera are trying to get their driver to sign Individual agreements repudiating the union." , Prealdent McCarthy, of the truck ownera' aaaoolatlon, admitted that there may be employera paying leas than the prescribed scale, but be aaaerted that thla showed that the union could not control Its men. A succeaafut teamaters' strike would tie up all the wholesale dry goods business trafflo and all traffic to and from the piers, east and west bound, south of Twenty-third street This takes In the district covered by the agreement IRON HIOHE8T FOR YEAR. Stooks Were Muoh Reduced by Sale Lett Month. Cleveland, Oct. 10. The Increased actltvlty In ths Iron market which tarted with October has kept up and the past week has seen ths hlgheet Prompt prices of the year. Consumption has been overlapping production for sev eral week and while smelters of pig Iron bought In the market, particu larly foundries,' find no marked Increase of i orders, they are steadily molting more iron thnn In the summer months. The statlatlcs Indicate that pig Iron output on October 1 was at a rate of about 16,000,000 tons a yeur, while In March, April and May, the spring "freshet" carried It up to a rate of 18,000,000 tons, I'lg Iron production Is now on Its second upturn for the year and the extent of the movement depends upon several factors. One Is ths uncertainty of the coal strike In the south. Anothr Is the amount of Idle capacity that will come In as prices. The advance has not been enough yet for blowing In of furnaces that have been waiting for real profit But the Important fact Is that merchant stocks of pig Iron were re duced 76,000 tons last month with coal and coke production 17S tons more than In August It would seem that too much has been made of the marking up of south ern Iron to 1 10.60 for No. foundry, and to 111 by some producers. With lit tle or no Iron selling at these prices they are scarcely more significant than the 112 price named In early 1902 by oversold producers who had no Iron to sell at any price. Northern foundry Irons have advanced, however, In the past week on actual sales, and ths mln Imum for No. 2 foundry Is now f 12 at furnace and $12.60 Is now asked. The steel rail situation Is a waiting one. Manufacturers cits the well-maintain ed freight rates of the carriers as an Important element In the problem of rati prices tor next year, while 224 Is a commonly discussed price, icon anions in ths next few weks may fix $S0, or even S2S, as the basis. While real requirements for the next year are expected to be far beyond that of 1904 standard, standard sections are dull, though light rail business Is good. TUNNEL CONTRACT AWARDED.
