RACE RIOT 'IMMINENT Trouble Arises in Texas Because of Negro's Crime and Sub . . sequent Lynching COLORED PEOPLE MUST GO Proposed Negro Excursion b Abandoned at Request of White Officials Blacks Terrorized Chicago, Aug. 20.-A dispatch from the Record-Herald from Dallas, Tex., says: 'A News from White Wright, Texas, Is to the effect that all of the negroes of the town, more than 100 persons have fled for fear of a race war. A negro at tacked a white woman about a week ago and that night a negro accused of the offense was hanged by a mob, but was rescued and saved from death by the sheriff and a pose. Notices were poat- ed ordering all the negroes to leave the ' place apd the blacks have fled. A Texas and Pacific negro excursion from Louisana and Eastern Texas to El Paw arranged recently, has been de clared off on protests from the mayor and chief of police at El Paso, who fear ed race troublal GREAT COTTON MERGER. William Koenlg has married his step-mother, Mrs. Anna Koenig. The father of the young man and first husband of the woman committed suicide a year ago. The couple sought a license in this city, but the county judge refused to per form the ceremony, not being satisfied that it would be legal. . COUNT WILSON IN CITY Chicago, August JO. A dispatch " to the Record-Herald from New Orleans says: The organization of the Southern Tex tile Company, a combine of southern cotton yarn mills, nas been practically completed and the mils will be soon tak .n over. This Is the largest cotton mer ger that has ever taken place. ' The company which Is capitalized at 114,000 A00 will take over about 70 mills in North Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee Count Arthur Wilson, consul for Nor way and Sweden, residing In Portland. is among the regatta visitors this week. Count Wilson has been the consular representative of the Norwegian coun try tn the Portland district for 22 years. Russia has no consul at Port land, and since Finland has been Rua- sianired and even before. Count Wilson has performed consular sen-ice for the Finns of this country. WALKED STREETS ALL NIOHT About 4 o'clock yesterday a tauy and child were found walking the streets, having been unable to find a room. This is unnecessary, and if those who are unable to find accommodation will call on the committee at regatta head quarters. Commercial and Eleventh, the committee will try and provide for them. The members of the senate sub-committee, which has beeneonsiderlug a currency measure, haw given up the idea of reaching an agreement upon any asset currency plan, says a World dispatch from Prov idence, R. I. v Senator Aldrlch, the chairman, is au thority for the statement that while the committee had not departed from Its determination to devise some conser vative measure for the betterment of financial conditions. It has decided to exclude from the bill any reference to asset curency of any other detail upon which a disagreement of the senate and house would be likely.- "It is the belief of that committee that in a short time before congress Is convened that It would be practically impossible to frame, with any hope of its adoption, a comprehensive currency measure that would embrace all the larger Questions which will yet have to be dealt with. The energies of the com mittee, thir.fore,are being devoted to (mvIik -.he "voy for the passage of n simple bill to meet present needs."
