A Chicago minister, always up with the times, proposes a church, trust Only two years ago the trust was look ed upon as the most dangerous enemy that haa yet invaded this country. None could be found to stand up in its defense. Everybody felt called upon to denounce the hydra-headed evil and visions of serfdom accompanied the ad vent of the trust. And now comes the suggestion that the trust Is & means of hurrying the millennium. The word baa already lost its terrors. It may be used In the puIpH, Sunday school and family prayer again. It may be only a friend In disguise, pointing out a short cut to heaven. By virtue of the trust we may be able to walk the milky path way to mansions in the sky. Through the trust, denominational gulfs and schisms may be bridged. There need be no more unnecessary multiplication of churches where not heeded. If the Chi cago minister's idea of the trust can be made in reality the millennium is at hand, and rather than a means whereby plutocracy may crush the com mon peopla, it will make salvation more easily within the reach of all. If President Roosevelt could have seen the Chinese, big, little, old and young, turn out on the occasion ot the dragon parade yesterday, he would have concluded theChlnese nation needs no lecture on race suicide. The Telegram of Portland ras estab lished a column of "splashes" with Jno. W. Kelty as splasher. Other papers will have to have similar columns to splash back. g' ' " N0Wl Qeatl I hostii pacific erewiktg Made in California where materials are produced. The lowest priced roofing made. Few people ever have to wear glasses from loaking on the brighter side of life ARE GETTING LOGS The Bremner Logging Company, op erating near Toungs river falls, now has its line of railroad extended one mile and a half south and the work of taking out logs has begun. The camp, which has been located near the falls, will be removed to the end of the line at once. Everything is working smoothly and the line will be moved farther inland rapidly. The establish ment of this logging camp is a boon to the section embraced by Olney and the rapid development of the . territory which its operation affects is assured. Already a postoffice has been establish ed which will be known as Casey.' The office will be placed In the home of John Casey, an old resident near the falls. Miss C. Quinn, a nelce of Mr, Casey, has been appointed post-mistress. BODY IS SHIPPED The body of the late Joe Black, who was killed in his logging camp on Grays river Tuesday evening, was shipped on last night's train for Kelso, Wash., where it will be interred. ASTORIA, INTEREST IN REGATTA Interest displayed In Oregon's annual regatta is another ' evidence. , of hov water sports are growing In popular favor. What form of amusement is so recreative, and so void of objection able features? Who could witness the events now In progress on the Columbia river tn front of Astoria without an In describable thrill ot pleasure or leave without resolving to never miss any aim liar event in the future? The manage ment of the coming national expositions rcognle the growing demand for this form of amusement and aquatic sports will be made a prominent feature of the Lewis & Clark fair at Portland in 1S05 and at the Louisiana Purchase Exposi tion at St. Louis next year. The great er portion of the site for the Portland exposition is covered with water, and when it is improved Is expected to fur nish some of 'he principal diversions for fair visitors. Immense expendi tures will be made for entertainments ! on water at St. Louis. Electric launch es, large electric barges, Venetian gon dolas and a large number of other tmall craft will ply the miles of water ways ' at the Worlds Fair next year. The large boats will run over regular courses carrying pasengers between landings which will be supplied in var ious parts of the grounds. The lagoons reach every section of the main picture of the exposition, passing by thefa cades of many ot the big exhibit places and offering an unexampled view of the cascades and fountains. The Intra mural railroad and the miniature roil way do not reach this district so that the water transportation will be an at tractive means of travel in the "main picture." The electric launches will carry about 22 persons each; the barges, 70 persons each; and the picturesque gon dolas, with singing gondoliers, will carry from S to 20 persons each. The latter will be rented by the hour. All boats will be equipped with awninirs. j Besides these boats there will be oper ated a fleet oftvater craft of all nations Including the house-boat of China, the Balso of India, the out-rigger of the South Sea Islands, the surf boats of Hawaii, the canoes and dug-outs of the American Indian and the Catamaran of Australia. Novelty boats designed to represent peacocks, swans, sea serpents and other real and fabled beings will also be operated. Special boats decor ated and equipped with music and sing- inggondoliers will ' be maintained for private boating parties which will be a social feature of the exposition.
