Crane, who has just entered on a series of temperance meetings at the Methodist church, wa suddenly stricken after his service on Monday ev nlng and Is lying seriously III at the Occident hotel. He has been doing hard work in his business and temper ance efforts; at th nme time trying to complete certain studies for his better equipment as a speaker, and It I thought the strain ha been too much for him. He will require an extended rest and good earn to regain his health. HI family I at Eureka. Calif. Will Be Launched Soon Captain Hob Lo and son who have been building a launch nesr the site of the old mill on Youngs bay, have about completed their task. The launch, which will be launched about the 16th of this month, will be one of the largest boat of It class to do business on the Columbia In the vicinity of Astoria. Her measurement are to be 59 1-1 feet over all and 13. 1 beam. A 40-horse power engine will be Installed. The Lows hav not as yet determined upon the particular service they will put the launch to, but as they have already re ceived ha tdsomo offer they will not lack work. Captain of the Berlin Injured. The American ship Berlin under char ttr to th Alaska Fishermen' Packing company to carry supplies to Bristol bay, arrived In yesterday morning from Sart Francisco and brought with her a very sick ' captain. Captain Wallace, master of the ship, met with a fall while enroute for this port and the Injury he sustained Is of tt serious nature,. Captain Heating's launch, Elk, took Doctor Kinney out to the ship Inst night and the physician found It necessary to require the removal of the patient to the local hospital, which will be done today. During Captain Wallace's absence from hi ship Cap tain Reynold of the bark Harry Morse will be placed In command. Elks Elect Officers. Jahlstrom died sud denly yetsenfoy morning of heart die eax at his home, 364 Alameda, avenue. Mr. Jahbttrom had not been weH the day previous, anil left the office of the Fishermen's Packing company early In the day for that reason, but hi illness not thought to be of so serious a niture and his death Is a shock to th entire community. Ha had retired. but lat;r arose to refresh himself with a drink of water and Mr.. Jahlstrom found him at an early hour in the morning sitting in a chair In the room dead. Peter August Jahlstrom was burn In Finland 31 years ago and for upwards of 10 years has resided Irf this city. For a number of year he held responsible positions In the grocery department of th Foard and Stokes company. Later he resigned from thfre on account of poor health aqd ac cepted a position as bookkeeper with the Fishermen' Cooperative Packing association, which position he held un til his death. He was elected In 1901 councilman from the First ward. 'The funeral will be held tomorrow after- noi-nat 1 o'clock from the hall of the Knights of Pythias under the auspices of the Finnish Brotherhood.
