Again we are on tiie .threshold of another senatorial election, -i Th people at the atate are anxious that the needful legislation be not blocked by a., Ion drawn out con test over the senatorshlp, much less do they want to see a deadlock such as occurred at last session. For years there has been more or less factional struggle in the republican rDks In the state and the senatott&l fight is usually the basil of tontinued division in the ranks. At ths last republican state con vention, eastern Oregon made a clam orous demand for the candidate for governor, pledging the party that if given the ca-idiAa'.s that section would rally to his supptrt. Since eastern Oregon had not been honored for years with the governorship, their demands were acceded to and Mr. Furnish was nominated, although Mr. Geer urged his claims for another term, yet with out success. Toe result of that election is still fresh in the public mind. Mr; Furn ish " as defeated end eastern Oregon counties that were strongly republican nd that should have stood by an east of the mountains man cast their votes against him. Mr. Geer and his follow ers, smarting under failure of the gov ernor to receive a renominating con tributed what ihey could to Furnish's defeat in western Oregon. Not satis fied with this. Mr. Geer proceeded up on jetitto.i to make himself a candi dal for Unltsd States senator, his name appearing on the ballot in oppo sition to C. E. S. Wood, democrat, at the June elation. '," The result of that vo't is also well known, tiers being no republican opposition to Mr. Geer simply because it was thought beet to let him rua the gauntlet nd c4rryut a plan that would not materially affect the selection of the right man for sen ator when the right , time arrived. More thai .hat, it was supposed that allowing Gert to carry out his pet scheme would appease bis wrath at not being renominated for governor and would tend to abate his opposition to Fu'nhh, which, however, it appar ently did not do. But the time is past for quibbles over past elitUons. Neither the people nor the politicians want a long drawn out contest over the senatorshlp at this Hie secret Of womanly health would be esteemed is priceless by thousands of suffering women. Each month sees them moan big iu a darkened room. At the best Uiey endnre pain every day. . At the wont the pain becomes torment The secret of womanly health is In keeping the womanly organism in a per fectly healthy state. This can be done by the use of Dr. Pierce's Favorite Pre scription. It regulates the periods, dries debilitating drains, heals inflammation and ulceration, snd cures female weak ness, it makes weak women strong and sick women well. Women suffering from chronic forms of disease are invited to consult Dr. Pierce, by letter, free. All correspond ence is held as sacredly confidential and womanly confidences are guarded by trict professional privacy. Address Dr. R. V. Pierce, Buflalo, N. Y. Accept no substitute for Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription. There is noth ing else "just ss good" for womanly ailments. Three no longer exlsls causes which heielofor rmve precipitate disagreeable struggles n.t disruption of party organisation. The people nr in humor for quick (settle ment of the snalorhip, and around th'? standard of Hon.. O, W. Fulton all sids can flock and give, in his elec tion, entir satisfaction to the state. C. W. Fulton is larger and broader than party factions, and all will agree that he is bettor qualified for senator than any other man yot named for the posi tion. NORTHWEST PRESS Eugene Register: Fulton will go Into the race with nearly enough votes to elect him on first ballot. He had ha well be chosen on the first ballot as on the last ballot, and better, for then the legislature can attend to other mat ters for which it was elected. There will be no deadlock unless the Geer contingent is strong enough to block the way and hinder needful legislation. Cathlamet Breese: If women must wear plumes why not confine them to the ostrich which survives the opera tion and the barnyard cock that makes such fine pie? Let the song birds and wedding dresses of our other birds alone. Women are supposed to have hearts, but the evidence points to the fact that their love of finery is stronger than their love of nature. Post-Intelligencers An advantage of the present alliance between Germany and Great Britain, in attacking Vene suela, lies in the fact that each Is en abled to disclaim responsibility for any unnecessarily harsh and aggressive ac tions, laying it all on the "wicked partner," as they are both doing. Oregon Journal: Taklma has a sens ible woman. Being invited by a young preacher to go to Spokane and commit suicide with him, she sent an attorney to represent her. The lawyer refused to take the suicide route,' but It show ed the woman's heart was In the right place.- Ledger: A man on trial for murder In California pleads hypnotism. Un fortunately the soundness of his plea is something that could not be estab lished by autopsy. Still, the doctors might make a try at it.
