That many persona unreasonably felt aggrieved by ithe postponement of the local cor onation festlvieiea Is shown, says a Herald dispatch from London, by the fact that disturbances have occurred fn different parts of England. A crowd gathered in the streets of Watford and windows In the house of the chair man of the council were smashed, to gether with those of the coronation committee. Mounted police charged the crowd. Considerable rtotinz was indulged in at Dunstable. Dro'est meeting was held i and the crowd afterward proceeded to ( the residence of the mayor and rector where, amid much hooting, windows were smashed. A move was then made to the Chiltern Hills, where a great coronation bonfire was lighted con trary to orders, A riot also occurred in Hem pel Hampstead, owing to the difficulty of the coronation committee to sell out the beef and other things for the cor ronation dinner for the poor. The dis appointed poor collected In crowds and smashed the windows of members of the committee. At Newton Montgom eryshire, the committee decided to postpone all festivities indefinitely. Several residents being of the opinion that the children should not be dis appointed, requested the chairman of the district council to convene a pub lic meeting to consider the matter. This he refused to do . When the chairman emerged from the commit tee meetJng he was hooted by a large crowd. The reorganiza tion of the Democratic state commit tee has been effected and resulted in a complete victory for the friends of John P. Hopkins, who, with Vice chairman Botschenstein, Secretary Mount and Treasurer Brinton was re elected practically without opposition. Chairman Hopkins received the sup port of 2 of the 32 committeemen pres ent, or represented by proxies. ANTI-IMPERIAL MEETING. William I Lilies Mlnt.jJe, naval constructor V. S. N.. retired, wtio supervised the cc.n atrjction of the ill-fated battle-ship Maine at the Brooklyn navy yard, is dead at his home in Brooklyn. He was born in New York 73 years ago and entered the naval service In 1S69. He became a naval constructor in 1SSS and retired three years later. At the time of the Spanish war he returned to the navy and did active duty for two years. BRYAN NOT INVITED. Says if He Had Been He Would Have Responded. Not Attended. 'LJN'COLN, Xeb June S7.-W. J. PROGRAM OF ARBITRATION BILL. WASHINGTON, June 27.-The labor committee of the House has consid ered the bill creating a national board etc., which was Introduced by M. Mc- Dermont, of New Jersey, because of the continunce of the coal strike. Chairman Gardner called attention to the prostrating influence of a long continued strike which he said misfit be more serious than a national panic. It was the gen-ra view of the commit tee that a legally effective compulsory arbitration measures would be impos sible but th-U one which would secure j strong moral influence, backed by the I national government, in adiusting strikes. Several amendments nerfect ing the bill w?re made and the com mittee will m-et again to act further. TAFT STILL NEGOTIATING. LONDON. June 27. The Rome cor respondent of the Times referring to the purpose of the presence there of William H. Taft. Civil Governor of the Fhiiippine Island, says in a com munication dat.-d June 18: The Vatican is anxious, not only to be on good terms with the Washing ton government, but also to obtain the compensation which Judge Taft is understood to offr for the dispos session of the monks In the Philip pines. ANTHRACITE COAL SHIPMENTS. PHILADELPHIA, June 27. The statement of the coal and coke compa nies on the Pennsylvania railroad lines east of Pittsburg and Erie for the week ending June 21 shows that there was carried only 5901 tons of anthra cite coal, ah compared with &2.S12 tons for the corresponding period of 1901. The shipments of bituminous; coal were 548,596 tons, as compared with 284,079, and the coke tonnage was 191,- 841 as against 159,668 tons, the total tonnage amounting to 776.338 tons. Notwithstanding the falling off n the shipment of anthracite coal, the. total fuel carried was greater than Vt was in the corresponding week of 1901.
