DENVER, Nov. 20,-The Rocky Mountain Industrial Sanitarium organ Ixed" by Denver professional and busi ness men last spring, is now In suc cessful operation. On a 10-acre tract. five mHes from Denver, 15 or 20 pa tients in the early stages of consump tion are under the plana of the pro moters virtually taking care of them selves. The rules of the Institution compel a continuous outdoor l.fe to be maintained summer and winter. Each patient is provided wlyi a roomy tent, plenty of -artn clothing ,inJ blankeU and a small stove to ba) used only In extrem.-ly cold weather. Experience"! haj proved that with proper food and clo.hlng and a life i t the open a r and sunshine artificial heat Is unnecessary and becomes absolutely unbeirable to the patients-who without exception gain rapidly. The ihope of the physicians and oth ers back of the enterprL-aj Is to form a great colony of all consumptives who come to Denver and thus take them off tbe streets of the city and out of the hotels and boarding houses where they could never recover and where they are a constant menace to public health. While no one la allowed by the arti cles of the incorporation to profit, by the enterprise, the Institution must be serf supporting. The co-operative Idee. has atready been put In foree for many of th? patients are supporting them selves wholly or in part by doing the work on the premises. Next aping the gound will be plotted and eveything needed at the sanitarium will be ra-ued and sold to the commissary department at regular retail prices. It is also bhe purpose to make the place s attrac tive that tubercular patients of some means will ba glad to avail themselvea of Its advantages and contribute money histead of labor. The sinitailum aux iliary, composed of young women, has established branches In many Eastern cities where money is being raised for the equipment of tents and the. build ing of airy cottages.
