One of the subjects of contention was over the employment of boys In the w a.Ht-.lnir d'-p.irtm -nt. Th brewers claimed that th work could be done by boys and girls as thoroughly aa by men. One proositlin contemplated the employment of one boy under eighteen year of age for every six men employed In tiie bottling department. The other provision of the con tract provide that In case of differ ence betwen employers and men a board of arbitration shall be appoint ed to consist of two members to be m lecled by the men and two to be nam .d by the brewers. If no agreement can be reached the arbitrators are empower ed to appoint a fifth man. The agree ment Is to remain In force until March IH, 1302. It Is believed that the aeeptance of the agreement by all parties interested will result In the strike being called off as soon as rhe document reaches Port lind today. W.nen the fact became known experts declared the vessel might have struck a storm and In that event the cases washed ashore might have ben Jetti soned to relieve the ship of top heav iness. This theory was borne out by the fact that no wreckage had floated ashore with the salmon and the Insurance men breathed easier. Then one of the Vic toria owner of the cargo asserted that the rases found had been stored In the bottom of the ship, but despite this the rate of reinsurance dropped to 60 per cent, and the London salmon market fell perceptibly. The ship Is not expected to arrive for a month yet. and many believe the re ports of the alleged wreck of the Ard namurchan were circulated by parties Interested In raising the London price of salmon.
