The story of the affair was given in detail to an Astorian reporter by Deputy Sheriff Trulllnger last night Immediately after his arrival In the city from the fatal spot. His statement was substantially as follows: ' I was standing immediately at the side of Moore when the shot was flred," said he. "My first thought was that the shot was flred accidentally. I was dased for a moment and was nearly suffocated with the smoke, and it was several seconds before I could realise what had happened. Aa the smoke cleared away I saw Moore stagger and fall to :hts porch. In my bewilderment I at once ran to cover, seeking refuge behind the corner of a barn about 200 feet distant from the house. As I looked toward the house I saw Wlckman still on the porch. Presently Hilstrom appeared at a side window with the gun still in his hands, moving In a threatening manner. Wlckman saw this and at once ran off the perch, seeking shelter behind a large stump about 150 feot away. Hil strom then appeared In the window In full view, 'his gun ready to Are. Wlck man shouted to him and asked: " 'Did you kill Moore?' " 'Yes, I killed him,' waa the reply. " -Why did you do It?' Wlckman asked. "Hilstrom then made a rather In coherent reply to the effect that he had the United States government on his Bide and had a right to kill whomso ever he desired. "This ended the conversation. I am satisfied that poor Moore is dead be cause, for several seconds he groaned terribly, and then he suddenly ceased entirely.
