Sugar Hoarding ' ' Must Be Stopped Individual selfishness and lack of patriotism are threatening, In various parts of the country, Oregon not ex cepted, to undo the splendid work of the United States Food Administra tion in regulating the prices of staple foods and preventing profiteering by wholesale and retail grocers. Re ports are being made to the office of W. B. Ayer, federal food adminis trator for Oregon, that private indi viduals have been buying and hoard ing certain staples, notably sugar, beyond all their reasonable noeds. "The person , who does this," Baity Assistant Federal Food Administra tor W. K. Newell, "Is very short sighted, as well as entirely selfish and unpatriotic. The United States Food Administration has elvnn tha public assurance that there is enough sugar lur us an, ana nas arranged for an equitable distribution and a ' fair price!, through Its system of licensing the wholesale jobbers and large retailer Under this system, which was expressly designed for the benefit of the people, all possibility of profiteering has been eliminated and the public assured of an abun dant, supply at reasonable prices," Why complain of scarce fuel when, there are so many of those ugly ad vertising signs erected along country highways that everyone would be glad to see knocked down.T , Hi 1 1 1 1 IHMHt Mrs. Henry Terry Elmore Soprano Soloist Teacher of Singing Winter term ojens December 1. 217 North Vain street.
