The ladies held their meeting out of doors on the lawn and Mrs. Frank Shlnn led the meeting. The subject of the meeting was Africa. After the devotional part of the meeting an announcement was made of a mis sionary who is coming, to Ashland September 25. This missionary lady is Dr. Maud Allen, the first mission ary that was sent out from Portland. Dr. Allen Is a medical missionary and will tell of her work in India at the Presbyterian church in the after noon of September 26. A jolly group of girls enjoyed a swimming party and a watermelon feed at Helman's natatorium Wed nesday evening. They found the wa ter a little frigid, but invigorating, so that after a short plunge they so journed to the park benches and spent the rest of their enjoyable evening in bathing their faces with watermelon. Those who enjoyed the affair were the Misses Ernestine Hicks; Grace Bess, Laura Wenner, Bernice Myer, . Cora Dlvet, Emma Koehler, Mae Skeene, Gladys Apple gate, Louise Gillette, Marian Sum mers and Marjorle Gillette. Sunshine Society Meet. The pioneers of the valley will meet In Lithia park Thursday morn ing. The morning program will start at 11 o'clock. The program will con sist of several musical numbers and other interesting features. The ad dress of the day will be given by Rev. H. A. Carnahan. Following the pro gram a basket lunch will be in order. The afternoon will be given over to a social reunion. All pioneers are re quested to be present and to bring along a well-filled basket. Club Notice. The Wednesday Afternoon Club of the Presbyterian church will meet on Wednesday at 2:30 o'clock in Llthia park, near the bandstand, the officers acting as hostesses. All members of the club and ladles of the church are asked to bring their work and spend one more afternoon In the park with us. Social Circle Meet. The Social Circle of the Christian church met on Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. O. W. Long on Eighth street., Mesdames Long and Forter entertained the ladles In a School opened at the Bellevlew school Monday. September 3. Seven teen pupils registered the first day. However, several have entered since then. Charles Devine and Dougall Toung are now pupils in the district. F. P. Schneider has traded his ranch to a Portland man. However, he will not move out of our district. Mrs.' W. L. Moore and Eleanor left Tuesday morning for Montague, Cal., where Mr. Moore has been working the past month. Mr. and Mrs. Grover have moved into our district. They are living in the George Milner home near the normal. Mrs. I. C. Moore and Roy Drake are visiting at the A. D. Moore home this week. Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Dorwin, who have been visiting the J. A. Kelts family, left Monday for their home in Fort Myers. Fla. The Parent-Teacher Circle will hold the first meeting of this year Friday, September 14, at 8 o'clock. All who are Interested In this work are cordially invited. This year's work promises to be more instructive and beneficial than in the past, and with such capable leaders as have volunteered their services, we are as sured we will have a very successful year.
