HART Physician and Surgeon TALENT, OREGON, mm 10, 1011 Shareholders Hold Meeting A well attended and lively meeting! of the shareholders of the proposed Talent creamery was held in the hall over the postoffice Tuesday after noon. Mr. Hogmar, the promoter, has secured the necessary $3,500' stock subscribed to build and equip the building and this meeting was called by him to have the sharehold ers select a committee of three to choose a site and look after the build ing of the creamery. It was evident ly the intention of Mr. Hogmer to have the site selected and the con tract let (incidentally to himself) thut day, but the shareholders thought otherwise. Peter Vundersluis was chosen tem porary chairman of the meeting and Harry Simpson, representing the Tal ent Lumber Company, as secretary. There was considerable discussion as to whether the creamery should be a stock company or a co-operative creamery, the point at issue being whether or not there should in any event be dividends, over and above the fair interest on the investment, or whether it should be a nrofit- making affair. Practically every non milk producing shareholder was pres ent and were a unit in stating that their shares would be gladly turned over to any milk producer at any time, even without interest. The matter was finally passed upon by a motion to organize a co-operative creamery company. A motion was made and carried that a committee of three be elected by the shareholders to consider site, investigate the plans and specifica tions presented and report to a later meeting. Johhua Patterson, Grant Davis, H. P. Houston, J. H. Fuller and C. M. Thomas were nominated. Mr. Thom as withdrew his name, believing that the committee should all be milk pro ducers. Nevertheless he was within three votes of being named, Messrs. Patterson, Fuller and Davis receiv ing the highest number of votes. The committee immediately met and in sisted that Mr. Thomas act with them that they might have the benefit of his legal knowledge and business abil ity. The committee visited several sites, one having been offered free by Mr. Patterson, and will take up the mat ter of plans and specifications, esti mates, etc., with the Ore;;on Agricul tural College. A meeting will be called shortly to consider their report. Big Minstrel Show By Home Talent The date for the big musical event in Talent has been set for February 24. I have always giv en It to my children when suffering from croup, and It has never failed to give them prompt relief." For sale by all dealers. This bar gain runs only to March 1. 73-7t TH I RSI ) A V, FEBRUARY "When Dreams Come True" There was recently on dir.play in the window of the Warner Mercantile Company at Ashland a striking poster with the above legend. The lower portion represents a farm lad with a milk pail and a discontented look get ting ready to mill; a cow. Above was his dream of a machine which would niilk, in the form of the Sharpies milking machine. It was the good fortune of the Tidings rep resentative to visit Houston Brothers' ranch near Talent and witness the workings of a two-unit milking ma chine of this make and it was cer-1 tainly u revelation. The machine has I been referred to as an electrical' milking machine, but such is not the nature of the machine. In the in stance of the Houston Brothers the power is furnished by an electric mo tor, but any constant speed power would do as well. The machine com prises two parts, the pumps and the milking attachment. The pumps are situated in the dairy house adjoining the bain, together with the electric motor and the separator. The pumps are two in number, or rather a double lump acting in unison, one creating an air pressure and the other a vacuum. The action of the pumps carries itself, through pressure pipes and vacuum pipes and flexible rubber tubes, to the milking attachment, which consists of eight flexible tubes terminating in four small nickel cyl inders with suction rings at the ends which slip up over the teats. When the pressure and vacuum are both turned on they work alternately, au tomatically bringing a suction and an upward pressure to bear upon the teats and udder. If you ever noticed, while a man milks down, the calf always milks up and bunts rather than strips the udder to secure the last drops of milk. Thus the alter nate suction and pressure upward more nearly approach nature than human milking. Houston Brothers nave a two-unit machine; that is, a Fet of pumps with two sets of suction tubes. The writ er rorgot to state that the milk runs i down the short tubes into a large- bottomed, small-topped pail, which is tightly closed, and which it is almost impossible for the cow to tip over should she step around. With a two unit machine, such as Houston Broth ers have, one man can milk 20 tows in an hour, and as they will have the separator coupled up to the same shaft as the pumps, when the milk ing is done the separating is com pleted, or practically so. Mr. Hous ton states that the machine is a per fect success, that while it is more practical to strip the cows a little, because oi the fact that often one teat gives more than others, and to be certain that the cow is perfectly dry, that the mechanical method is not only more rapid but more eco nomical and more sanitary. He states that he hopes in time to double his present herd of 34 cows and that then he will install two more milk ing units. The cost, exclusive of tho motor, was $350 for a two-unit ma chine. This machine is, so far as the writ er is able to learn, the only one in this part of the county, if not In the entire valley or southern Oregon, but it is safe to predict that It will mean much to the dairy interests of the state. When the owner of a herd of twenty cows can do the milking and run- for the milk of 20 cows in two hours a day it goes a long way to ward solving tho help problem. Houston Brothers started with a mixed herd but are rapidly building j up a fino herd of Jerseys and will this week exchange the remaining Durhams in their herd for Jersey cows. They are also the owners of the fine Buckeye orchards and are firm believers in tho necessity of diversi fied farming. It would pay anyone contemplat ing going into dairying to visit their ranch at milking time. The Tidings Is not boosting this particular milk ing machine, but simply investigated It as something new to this section, and In fact to the dairy world, and finds It to be a sureeRg. There are other milking machines, we bellevo, on the market, but know nothing of their merits. How to Prevent Bilious Attacks. I "Coming events cast their shadows ' before." This Is especially true of bilious attacks. Your appetite will! fall, you will feel dull and languid, i If you are subject to bilious attacks take three of Chamberlain's Tablets as soon as those symptoms appear and tho attack may be warded off. When you buy a package of Sam ose, the great flesh former,, weigh yourself and see how much you gain in the first week's use. McN'air Bros, could tell of their customers who a month or so ago were thin, pale and haggard, but who are now, through the use of Samoso, plump, strong and happy, with perfect health and at tractive flesh. They have seen so many instances of the wonderful power of Sam oho to restore the weak and sick to strength and health and to make good, natural flesh that they give their personal guarantee with every package of Samose they sell to refund the money if it does not prove satisfactory. Samose is a pure preparation,, and can he used with absolute confidence by the most delicate. It builds up the thin, pale, puny girl and woman to plumpness and health.
