Billings, who returned a few days ago from Idaho, reports many in that section turning their eyes to ward southern Oregon, and hopes to get some of them here in the near future. He is making an especial effort to interest capitalists in the project of making cement in this im mediate vicinity. " A. M. Tilton and his nephew, C. E. Linscalt, arrived on Tuesday evening from Gault, Cal., and are stopping with A. R. Wright, 275 Woolen street. Mr. Tilton is a for mer resident of Ashland, having left here two years ago, and has been living in Nebraska and other central states most of the time since. A large assortment of ladies' underwear has been shipped to the Ashland Trading Company on con signment. J. C. Bach, for the past year bag gage man at the local Southern Pa cific depot, has taken a six months' layoff and left yesterday evening for Corral, in southern Idaho, where he will spend the summer with his par ents. Mr. Norris, who hai been act ing as bookkeeper at the Ashland Fruit & Produce Association, will as sume the duties of baggageman dur ing Mr. Bach's absence. A. C. Edwards, an old gentleman residing at 815 Oak 6treet, was quite seriously injured Saturday by a run away. He was driving a spirited team when they became frightened at a motorcycle and the old gentle manwas jerked over the seat and his head struck the box in such a way as to fracture his cheek bone and otherwise injure him. Two young grandsons who were with him were thrown out and ono of them badly cut and bruised, while the oth er escaped injury. The cyclist, who is reported to have been careless in darting In front of the team, is un known. THAT HOTEL BARN. Proprietors of Hotel Oregon Decline to Accede to Council. The street committee, through Councilman Sherman, its chairman, reported Tuesday evening on the matter of the old hotel barn back of the Hotel Oregon. He stated that the proprietors insisted that they had the right to maintain the build ing as a garage and that they were not compelled to put a new roof on it as asked by the council. The mat ter was finally referred to the city attorney for an opinion as to the powers of the council in the premi ses. Girl Robs Chauffeur at Revolver's Point. Chico, Cal., April IS. Calmly telling of how she held up William Lansdale, a chauffeur, with a big revolver, while "joy-riding" with him near here, Miss Myrtle Collins, a pretty young Chico girl, created a sensation in the juvenile court room here today. The girl was arrested in Oakland after jumping from the speeding au tomobile and swinging aboard moving passenger train bound for that city.
