Yet heretofore our people have been handicapped by de pending entirely upon tbe San Francieco market. They have gradually fallen into tbe idea of thinking that there was no other place to sell their steers, and con sequently the buyers have sat dowu iu Shasta valley and quietly folded their hands, while the Lake oounty meu drove their beef to them and accepted their price. Bnt this year the probabilities are that much of tbe beef from this locality will go tbe other way. I t ba6 been dem onstrated that it is an easy matter to lake good feeders across the desert from Wag- ontire mountain to Huntington or On tario. aud get them to the road iu fine condition. This season the range prom ises to be unusually fine, and feed will probably be abundant the entire distance. We are iuformed that the Carr compa ny has contracted to furnish 290(1 steers from their Silver Lake range to Chicago buyeis, and that they will be started out in Juue. Aud it is more tbau probable that Chicago buyers will reach this coun ty during the summer, and will be will ing to pay gixxl prices. Iu any event, we are assured by practical cattlemen, who know whereof they speak, that it is not a difficult undertaking to run good beef into the Kansas City market, aud realize from five to eight dollars per head more thau they will fetch here. The Shasta valley people, who quietly wait for the Lake county men to drive into their little Det, this year are apt to find, like Othello, that their occupation is gone.
