THE VBIDAY ASHLAND TIDINGS DECEMBER 5, 1879. ,S Ft AMP LAND CONTEST. The application of John Gleim fora deed to certain lands below Linkville, taken by him as a homestead, has been passed upon bv the Oregon Board of school Land Commissioners. The appli cation for a deed was made under the act of October 18, 1879, which provides that the right of the state to swamp and overflowed lands within its limits (held in accord ance with the U. S. laws relating to the same) which were “in pos session of or claimed by any settler in good faith under the pre-emp tion or homestead laws of the United States before the same was segregated and selected as swamp or overflowed lands by the author ities of the State of Oregon under the act approved Oct. 26, 1S70, and such selection confirmed as provided by the laws of the United States, and before such lands were claimed by any lawful claimant under the swamp land ot Oregon, shall be, and the same are hereby granted, released and confirmed unto said settlers respectively oc cupying and claiming as aforesaid any portion of swamp or over flowed lands.” The Board state that in all cases ot applications for deeds under the act above referred to the questions to be determined are: !
