Mr. W. S. Moss, representing the Salem Mercury, was in Ashland on Tuesday last, Succeeded in obtain ing a good list of subscribers. Hi left on the nortbward-boand stage on Wednesday. Mr. Brown, of the late firm of Brown & Harris, will go to Fort Klamath next week to look after the butchering business he is conducting there. The second accident broke an axle, but, fortunately no one was hurt. The Roseburg Star says the wild hogs are making it troublesome for the sheep-raisers in the neighborhood of Round Prairie. Says the Sentinel: Tom Kahler brought to town on Saturday a lump of quartz rich with gold, which was found in the Fort Lane diggings of Kahbr, McDonough & Co. It was es timated to contain about $200, and was found in the bank at laaat two feet tbove the bedrock. They have facilities for manufacturing furniture of nearly every description and are thus enabaled to use the ma chinery which during the building season is kept busy in tnruing out bouse finishing ma’eriul. W. Goodaie was oj his way home from Scott Bar, and when at the base of the other side of Scott Bar mountdn, he came to a very icy place in the road and attempted to ulight, in lending to walk over it. The horse at the time was s’au ing on a little ice, and as Mr. G odule threw himself fioiz the sa.hlle, tue weight pulltd the ani mal from off his feet, and he fell, his right foot remaining in the stirrup. B-fore he was able to extricate it, the horse recovered his fret, and started down the muiimaiu ou the ruu, drag ging him aloug. At the foot of the mountain is a creek in which there is considerable water, and as the horse reached this Mr. Goodale’s foot came out of the stirrup. Had not his foot came out just as it did, results might have been serious, as in the creek aud on the other side were large rocks against which he would probably have been harled As it was, that gentle- man was mere'y brnised and a little shaken. — Scott VaVey New». !
