BY THE SEA.
Attorney and Counsellor-at-Law,
Blue Is the mist on the mountains;
White ii the fog on the sea;
Ruby and gold is the sunset,
And Bertha is waiting for me.
IN
Down on the lonesome sand beach,
Her eyes as blue as the mist,
Her brow as white as the sea-fog—
Bertha, whose lips I have kissed.
Bertha whose lips are like rubies,
Whose huir is like coiled gold;
Wnoee shy, rare smile is tenderer
Than any legend of old.

so to make things lively these
“dull times.”
One morn, one noon, one sunset
Must pass before we meet;
O wind and sail bear steadv on
And briug me to her feet!
Who treads the lonesome sandbeach
With wet, disordered hair ?
With garments tangled with seaweed,
And cheeks more pale than fair!
A Missouri clergyman is asked to va
cate the pulpit just becaase he had
three wives living, and is suspected of
having poisoned the fourth. Church
congregations are becoming so pecul
iar, that after awhile a clergyman will
not be permitted to have any worldly
enjoyment at all.

JOHN RALPH.
The great sea serpent was stranded
at Oban Scotland, a short time since.
The boatmen headed him off, the rifle
men fired at him, and the natives stood
on the beach and gazed. Finally he
ran aground in front of the hotel, and
as his tail swept the beach and slung
pebbles in all directions, smashing win
dows and puncturing heads, the natives
retreated inland. He was finally drag
ged ashore and measured. His length
was 101 feet and was 11 feet in circum
ference.
