SET A LIMIT It appears now as though the grav eling of the Newport-road would be completed before the winter rains set in. The Siletz road has been placed In good shape this summer, and with proper usage, it is reasonable to be lieve that these roads will be passable all winter. We believe it would be well for the County Court to safeguard the inter ests of the public by passing legisla tion limiting the size of loads to be hauled on; these roads. Heavy haul ing will do damage that it wlL cost the County thousands of dollars to repair. o PROBABLY BEST FOR ALL Should the properties of the Ya qulna Harbor Lumber Co. be taken thru bankrupcy proceedings, as it now seems they will be, it would prob ably be better for all parties con cerned s well as for the citizens of T.'" c;.r mum HI bhl.kriiDO' petitions be irrantedbv Judge Skip-1 worth, and a receiver nnnlnrt i,J r i - - , i-'i aia receiver couia proceed to sell the mill and railroads to the highest bidder, and the money -eceived from the sale would be divided pro rata among the shareholders. The new purchaser would have ' a clear title to the properties and would be in shape to go ahead at once with operations. It is too bad that the company could not get on its feet and proceed with operations, but under present circum stances it seemed unable to do so. WANT.S MORE BERRIES The Yaquina Bay Packing Co. wants more blackberries than they are receiving in fact they are hardly getting enough berries to pay them to operate. Mr. F. A. Kurtz, the owner, was ' over from Salem this week and was very much disappointed that the 1 plant was not getting more berries. The company is planning on enlarg ing the plant here, but Mr. Kurz stated that he hardly felt justified in going ahead with the enlargements unless the people here showed a dis position to furnish the cannery with fruits to can. This is one of the greatest berry countries in the world and we should be developing our natural re sources. Strawberries, raspberries, loganberries1 and 5lackbefrles grow to perfection in this coast country and we should be shipping the canned products ot our. fields to all parts of the world. , .- ... Cut, the big fields up into five and ten acre berry tracts and see how fast the country will forge to the front. In the Willamette Valley they are .now making more off., of a five acre logan berry patch than they for merly made off of 1C0 In grain. Patronize the cannery -and help build -up a bl.escr and better Lincoln county.
