John Wheeler of Albany was here for a short visit with 'his uncle, Billy Cochell. " PRESIDENT MANSFIELD TO SPEAK AT COUNTY FAIR .-President Mansfield, president of the State Farm. Bureau Federation,, will be the principal speaker on the program Wednesday, the ninth. Mr. Mansfield will arrive on the evening train, September 8th and go into con ference that evening with the execu tive committee ot the Farm .Bureau, at which time the proposition of or ganizing the county on the State Farm Bureau Federation plan will be' dis cussed. Mr. Mansfield Is an excep tionally good speaker, has the interest of the farmer at heart, and it will be a real treat to those who have an op portunity to hear him at fair time. FIRE MARSHALS COMPLETE INSPECTION James Gleaeon and J. R. Griffith of the Stale Fire Marshal's Office com pleted their inspection of conditions in the cities of this county the first ot (be week and departed Monday noon for Salem. '; They stated that conditions fcere at Toledo were not as bad as those fqund lu many places of like size, but, they found a number of conditions existing which should be remedied. - . They recommended that the City appoint an inspector to look after 'the wiring ot buildings, and to see that. the Btate fire laws In general were observed, to see that the basements of the business houses were kept clean, and that Inflammables were no', stored on the premises contrary to law. They found several accumulations of rubbish that were a menace to the local property as well as the adjoining property. Buildings were wired with out any cutout switch and fuse where the wires en'.ered, etc. It is their intention to forward the Council a number of ordinances cov ering these various matters, with a request that the Council adopt Bame. Ole Osuess returned last week from a trip to British Columbia. Mr. Os ness was not very well pleased with that country and has decided that Oregon is good enough for him.
