She visited the homes of several of the Indian fam ilies and spoke of the neatness with which they were kept. Several persons have come to Si letz recently looking over the adver tised Indian lands with a view of buy ing homes, Representative McArthur visited Siletz last week. SOUTH BEACH IIts. Vanlloeter and MIS3 Violet nnd Frank Vanlloeter have come to the Beach for a few weeks and are occupying the hall pt Pacific View. Several families have camped at South Beach lately for a few days then moved on is they are motoring through the county. Cue family came all the way from Kansas. Elmer Watkins entertained a rnrty of his voung friends Sunday at dinner. John Davenport is ltiyed off witli a broken collar bono. C. W. Brown took John Davenport ln his car to Elk City where Dr. Bur gess met him. They put the bone into place which was broken twice and splintered badly. At present he Is doing very well. , ' - Mrs. Jessie McDonald wno lias been entertaining the measles at the' Hill Top ranch was able to return to ( her home at Harlan last week. Mrs. C. Dr. Burgess was railed Saturday night, George Schenck of Toledo driving him up in I1I3 Sfudebaker car. At present Mrs. Briggs is recovering nicely. Mt. and Mrs. Ray Earker of Pioneer and Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Davenport of Elk City drove up in the formers car to cell on Mrs. Briggs Tuesday last. The C. V. Just as they arrived at the scene of the blasting a terrible Rich-'explosion occured badly injuring Mr. I 'Jackson, Mr. Pickens and one of the Italian workmen on the road crew. The men were tried before Justice Sharman, Mr. Emery plead ine his -own case, and contributed $232 Into the stato treasury. ALBANY ELKS TO HAVE REGULAR OUTING AT BEACH Albany, Or., Aug. 9. Plans have been ctoried by the Albany Elks for tiie annual three-day beach outing to held at Newport, September 4, 5 and 6 and a committee composed of J. J. Barrett. A. K. McMahan, J. C. Martin, Clarence Collins and George Sanders has been appointed to care for arrangements in Albany. At New port another committee composed of residents there will act 38 host. A baseball game, joint initiation and clambake are among the features pro vided on the tentative amusement program, and Elks from the whole Willamette Valley are to be invited. It is expected that not less than 2,000 peopl.3 will take part in the festivi ties. From Albany a special train will bo operated on the Yaquina Branch for Elks and their, families. Journal. IN MEMORY W. H. Bukcr was born in the state of Ohio in 1837, and at the age of eighty three years died at his home in Waldport, Oregon, on August Cth, 1920, with the pasring away of Grand pa Buker, Waldport loses one of its oldest and most highly esteemed citi zens. Having come to Waldport in 1906. He was married at an early age and rals d a family of seven boys three of which are, living, the other four and his wife having passed on to the great eternal rest. He leaves a number of grand children and great grand children besides many friends mourn his loss. HIGHWAY COMMISSION WiLL ROCK ROAD : Owing to the fact that no bids were submitted for rocking twelve miles of the Corvallis-Nowtvirt highway in Lin coln county, that wro acceptable to the Highway Commission, this body has decided to go ahead with the rook ing of a mila and a quarter of road weiit from Toledo, without letting a contract. By doing this tho Highway Commission will be in a position to know what it costs per mile to rock in this county, and will be better able to make a contract for the res;, of the work, by reason of tills knowledge.
