JJr. J. G. Miller, wife, son and daugh
ter motored from Superior, Wisconsin
to Long Beach, California, visited
many places of interest in that state
and from there they came to Oregon
nd to Siletz as guests of Mr. and Mrs
W. S. Hall. Dr. Miller is a cousin
to Mrs. Hall. The party visited many
places at Silelz and on Sunday they
went to Newport, Oregon's most pop
ular seaside resort. The party is en
joying every moment while on this
trip of observation, health and pleas
tire. They think Oregon has some of
the finest scenery in the world. Tour
ists need not eo to Eurmva , ir,A
beautiful scenery, they can find it at
home. They think Newport Is very
ucuuuiui. i lie ocean and bay coming
together, with clean beaches and
natural attractions hard to find any
where else. They thought Siletz
with its big trees, beautiful vallies,
crystal clear streams and flowing riv
er presented a picture that would
please the most gifted trtlst. From
iiere the party will go to Portland
passing over the Columbia River
Highway one of the wonders of the
world. Will visit tne Yellowstone
Park and as many other points of
Interest on their way home as possi
ble. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Hall will
accompany them, as far as Portland

Chalcraft's park and held a bonfire

lit lip with a brilliant blaze the whole
park, around this fire a group of Joy
seeking folks gathered, cracked Joks
and told hair raising stories and sung

was spent. This unique entertainment

A social ball was given at Recrea

S. T. Loudon, R. E. Carnlne and Dr.
Belt were in town Tuesday. These
gentlemen had been at Taft holding
examinations for life insurance. They
went up the coast by way of Otter
Rock and came back by the way of
Siletz.
Superintendent Chalcraft has gonj
to Grand Ronde and other points on
official business to be absent about a
week.
The voters of the Lower Farm
School District and Siletz met at the
school house Saturday and unanimous
ly voted to give transportation to the
children of the lower district to Si
letz. This will build up one good
school and give the children all equal
privileges and better advantages.
Tuesday Banker C. E. Hawkins and
Attorney O. B. MoCluskey and some
other, fishermen of Toledo whose
nameB I did not obtain motored to the
Gorge to put In a few hours fishing.
What luck they had we do not know
but suppose it was good as the fish
are taking the hook now pretty good.
A large number of salmon are now
being caught on the lower bay and
sent to Toledo on trucks by the way
of SileU.
The roads are pretty good now and
the auto travel to Siletz Is increasing.
The playhouse at the public school
Is being put nri as fast as material
tan be had. The building is put on

will be a nice thing for the school
children. Larkey Logan has the con
tract.
SOUTH BEACH
Mrs. C. A. Rexroad returned to
South Beach from a visit with her
husband, while holding Chautauqua
at Dallas. Mrs. Rexroad also visited
Ilarrieburg end Corvallis while she
was out side.
Mr. and mts. Robert Edger, an ex
soldier and wife, "passed thru South
Beach last Saturday enroute to Wald
port. While stopping they visited
with Mr. and Mrs. D. S. Conrad.
Chas. Hilyard, who is an employee
of the Elmore Canning Co. passed

The board's message to the citizens
of Lincoln County Is to think, talk and
plan fair from now on up to and in
cluding September 21, 22 and 23 which
are the dates chosen for the annual
exhibition.
Among the preliminary actions of
Uie board was to appoint a general
committee with instructions to each
and every one to organize the citizens
in their iinmediato communities into
fair enthusiasts so that September 21
will see gathered together an exhibi
tion of products from every nook and
corner of the county that will be rep
resentative of the supreme quality that
marks Lincoln county.
The general committee consists of

Abo Abrams, Chauncey Hawkins, Chris
Larsen, Len Butterfield, Mrs. George
Wilson, Otis Hamar, William Downing,

days on Big Elk previous to moving
to their new home In Southern Ore

Elk Sunday. The latter Is still in
the lead.
Leonard Grant fell while playing
ball and tore the muscles of his leg
from the bone. He was taken to Cor
vallis by Chas. Cator where he re
ceived medical attention.

of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Springer.

different attractions are secured the
board will try and get tho news to
everyone and In the meantime they
want you all to think and plan and
talk and they will welcome any advice
anyone has to offer. Just write the
secretary either at Toledo or Nash
ville and let him try and absorb some
of your good Ideas. And right now
every citizen of Lincoln county should
take their calendar and book them
selves for the fair dates, September
21-22-23. Don't let anything crowd the
fair out of your system. The secre
tary has a season ticket with your
name already on it and ready to mail

COMMERCIAL CLUB
ORGANIZED
Some two dozen representative citi
zens of this vicinity met at the Court
House last Monday evening for the
purpose of organizing a commercial
club.
A constitution and by-laws were
read and adopted, and an executive
committee was named to carry 'thru
an election The 'by-taws provides
for a primary and a general election,
both of which are held thru the mails.
Ballots are mailed out to eueh member,
which are voted and sent hack, same
being a secret ballot.
The election will be held In Septenv
ber.
Those appointed on the executive
committee are: G. B. MH'Cluskey, J. E.
Cooter, D. L. Peterson, W. K. Patter
son and S. E. Newklrk.

12 MILES OF ROAD
ROCKED THIS FALL
The State Highway Commission has
notified the County Court that it is
prepared to go ahead with the rocking
of such portions of the Newport-Cor-vallis
highway as are graded, and
have advertised for jids for the rock
ing of .seven and a fourth miles be
tween here and Newport, and for a five
mile stretch in the east end of tho
county. The bids for these two sec
tions will be opened August 10th at
Portland. Wo understand that the
Fcven nnd a fourth miles completes
the stretch between here and Newport
as the new road is to be considerable
shorter than the present one. The
five miles in the east part of the coun
ty extends from Little Elk Mt. to the
llenlon County line.
We are Informed by Engineer Rice
that tlie rock for the Toledo-Newport
, section will probably be secured
at
Pioneer, where the rock will be crush
ed unit placed aboard cars for ship
ment to this point.
An effort will be made to complete
part of this work tills Fall before the
rains set In.

Toledo came out victorious In the
ball game on the local diamond with
Newport last Sunday, winning by the
close score of 5 to 4. Batteries, New
port Weeks and Bain; Toledo Tay
lor and Carson.
We understand that the Toledo
team goes to Waldport for a game

We are informed that the First
National Bank of Toledo will soon bo
an assured fact The charter has
been secured, a site has been pur
chased, and a two story, reinforced
concrete building will be erected at

which Is held In the Siletz. Tho en
terprise is being promoted by Guy
Roberts, A. T. Peterson and other sub
stantial business men of this place.
A lot has been purchased of P.
Frederick on the southeast corner of
Fourth and Hill streets, which Is one
of the best business locations in the
city. A two story reinforced, white .
concrete building will be built thereon
at once. Clayton Young will be In
charge of the construction work. The
entire lower floor will be occupied by
the bank while the upper floor will be
office looms. The building will be
strictly modern in every respect, and
a hot water heating plant will warm '
tho rooms. The lower Moor will be
finished in mahogany and have a neat
plate glass front.

MORE TROUT PLANTED
fifty-five thousand Rainbow trout
fry were planted In the tributaries of
the Siletz river the first of the week.
this being the second planting this
year. The llttlo fish were from the
Tidewater hatchery and were secured
thru the efforts of the Lincoln County
Rod and Gun Club.
