Wo are In receipt of a copy of the
Yaquina Post of Saturday. Octohc-r
Nth, 1882, published by Coll Van
Clevo, same being sent to us by Mrs.
Moses (iregson. of Philomath. The
subscription price was then ?2.50 por
year, and the paper is not as large as
the rural papers of today. Following
are some items gleaned from its
columns:
The steam launch Mary Hall makes
daily trips from Newport to Elk City,
where it connects with the mall coach.
Faro $1.00 round trip. R. A. Bensell
captain.
Mr. E. S. Altree ha leased the City
Hotel and moved up to his farm near
Toledo on Tuesday. He will probably
remain there until spring.
There aie Mxteen men at work at
the quarry under tho supervision of
Joe Dougherty.
Alex T. McClaughry Is making proof
on his homestead. He names as wit
nesses: Moses Hurd, Geo. Mulson,
William Logan and M. Glllett, all of
Newport, Bentcn County, Oregon.
Proof being made before L. T. Darin,
Register, at Yaquina, Or.
Work oni the tunnels is progressing
nicely. The summit tunnel ai this
end is being pushed night and day by
three shifts of men. Work at number
two and three is progressing steadily
and satisfactorily fair program being
mado eath day. We are inclined to
think from present indications that
tlie tunnels will be no obstruction of
the railroed through the mountains
next season.

A terrible storm had just visited

At Oneatta the force of the wind

to Fred. Bailey, standing cn the dock
in front of Henkle. McCoy & Co.'s
store, was blown over. "Stormy" Jor
dan was In the building, we believe,
when it blew over, but received no
serious bodily injury. Fred, saved
all hie tools and stjck damage slight.
"MesErs. Rankin and Elder occu
pied a tent near the railroad docks.
They were occupied a good part of
the night In holding their tent down,
as it seemed to have a dod-gasted de
sire to sail away, and In keeping
themselves from drowning."
