They suc ceeded in catching 24 mud cats and one perch. Mr. Ports took the Seventh and .Eighth grades flower pick ing across Olalla Blough last Friday, . ,, , , , A surprise party was given in honor , of Catherine .Collins' 11th birthday. Saturday after noon. ,, .Those present were Florence Derrick Helen Lollis, Pauline Wise, Loie Taylor, Addle Graham and Catherine Collins. Lunch was served at 4 o'clock. While swinging on the rings at the Grammar school little Ellen Altree fell and hurt her back, but not seriously, o Remember the Band Boys' dance Saturday night. o SCHOOL PICNIC The "Riverside V" school- house was the sene of a large gathering of people from the various Bchool districts Fri dny, March 12th. This is an annual affair and one much looked forward to by parents, pupils and teachers because of its both educational and social value. Mr. Coin, the county superin tendent, opened the meeting with n short address which made everyone feel at home and wel come. The Sabvdo and River side Kchools entertained with programs in the morning. Much credit Is di'e Mrs. Daniel, the Riverside school teacher, for the BTileiulid program which Bhe pre-1 purcu cyalosiips, sons, recita' tlons and the novel feature, .story-telling by the pupils from the primary grades. v'('hen came the crowning dinner. The r.ear Creek school and Harbin school oTered excellent musical numbers. Mr. Griffith of O.A.C. was there with his stereopticon views and lectured on .a subject of vital interest to the people of this community. He talked of the Industrial Club which are beln. a; organized (n the schools and the work they are doing. Miss Gertrude Johnson of Glenwood 1ms organized such a Cliib in her school. It was a difficult matter to award the penant to the most deserving school, but after much discussion It was awarded to Glenwood as they had the best educational and industrial exhibit. The schools represen ted and their teachers were Pear Creek, Bessie Gillette; Sa lado, Helen Gardner; Riverside V. Mrs. B. Daniels; Glenwood, Crrtu!e Johnson; Grant School Mabel Haan. We are in receipt of a letter this week from our former townsman, C. P. Merrell, enclos ing another year's subscription to the Leader. Mr. and Mrs. Merrell are nicely settled in their new home at Hillsboro and are doing well with the sawmill. Ed Pratt, the Corvallis jeweler, spent Saturday night and Sun day morning with his brother, II. H. Pratt ,and wife In this city. Mr. Pratt was here paying taxes on his Elk City Summer home. He returned to Elk City with Dr. Burgess in the Ferro II Sun- day evening, 1 1. H. Pratt accom panylng them.
