Mr. and Mrs. James Gatens have gone to Salem to viBit their son in law, Mr. Benner, and to spend the holidays in the Capital City. Mr. Gatens is recovering from the wounds he received while in an altercation with Z. C. Copeland. The physician who dressed the wounds said two ribs were fractured. W. II. Burton, a Btudent in the University of Oregon, is spend ing his vacation at Newport vis iting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Burton. Mr. Burton 13 the bc3t known as a correspondent of tho Oregon Journal. John Stevens, John McGee and A. Welch, of Portland, are at the Abbey. Mr. Welch is the main stockholder in the tele phone company in this couniv. This company is being re-organized and placed on a more solid foundation. Married At the home of Dr. Berry, December 21th, Mr. James Francis Huntsucker and Miss Lenora Trumpour, Dr. Walter M. Berry, J. P., perform ing the marriage ceremony. Mr. Huntsucker was born In this county and has lived hero ever since. Miss Trumpour 1-4 the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tram pour, who had charge of the Home Restaurant last Summer. The wedding wai quite, only a few friends being invited. Mr. and Mrs. Huntsucker will spend their honeymoon at Philomath, after which they will return lo Toledo where, for the present, they will make their home. Married December 18th, at Vancouver, Wa&hington, Mr. Harry Waters and Miss Nora Case. Mr. Waters is a resident of Coos county, where he owns considerable property; he also has property In Portland.. . He has been in the life saving ser vice for a number of years and in the Manila war with the navy and took part with Admiral Dewey in thegreat battle of Ma nila Bay when the Spanish fleet was completely knocked out. Miss Case is the third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Case. She was born i Newport and lived here most of her life. She is well known and has friends by the score because of her kind ly -disposition and womanly ways. She will be missed in this community. The wedding was quite, only a few friends be ing present. The many friends of the bride and groom wish them happiness and success and none of the soitowb incident to human life. Mr. and Mrs. Waters will live at Astoria for the present Rev. George Pratt of Seattle will preach at the Presbyterian churchSunday, the 27th, at 11 a. m., and at 7:30 In the evening. Rev. Pratt is classed as a very eloquent and impressive speaker He will probably be the succes sor to Mr. Hurd. On Sunday a very excellent musical program was rendered at the Presbyterian church. Mr.s Hallock, MlasMcElroy and Mrs. Thompson presided at the piano. MIrs Harkleroad sang a solo that was greatly appreciated and also did Mrs. Dr. Richman. These ladles always please the audience and are encoured. El mer Patrick also sang a solo In his splendid voice. He always pleases. Bond Daniels returned from Ilosklns with one of the finest mule teams that ever struck Big Elk Mrs. C. C. Lane was a Glen wood visitor last Saturday, Rev. R. J. Davenport came over from Corvallis with Mr. Lance of that city. Mr. Lance was looking for a ranch in these hills. Vance Daniels made a flying trip to Toledo Friday. Mrs. W. B. Daniel was a guest of her mother in law, Mrs. W. H. Daniel, Saturday. Watch for' the items in the next paper and you will learn that Riverside can do stunts on Christmas.
