You will not be turned away, though you be neither a parent nor a teacher, for it is called a parents' and teachers' meeting for the want of a better name. When parents and teachers talk they usually say something about the work of the buys and girls in school, also at home. The Oreeon Agricultural College. the University of Oregon, and the State ' Superintendent, with his official force, are working together for the betterment of the rural achoo', the country life in general This meeting is lor the purpose of making conditions in Lincoln , county equal to those in any other county, when it comes to the work of the boys and girls at school or at home. i. Come prepared to stay all day. There will be a session beginning about 9:30 a. m., another one be ginning at 12 o'clock, and another at 1:30 p.m. The threesessions will be held in the schoolhouse. You arc cordially invited to be present and help make it a success. R. P. Goin, County School Supt. Mill to Cut 100 Thousand The work of remodeling the local Eawmill is going rapidly for ward and it is thought that sawing will bo resumed about March 1st. at which time the capacity of the mill will be about doubled. Among the new features added will be a large new planer handling timbers up to as large aa twenty inches square. A new engine capable of developing 350 horsepower. A new carriage and set-works. Twin engines to pull the main saw. A sorting table to faciliate the handl ing of the lumber as it cornea from the trimmers. Several other minor changes are being made which will aid in the more rapid handling of the lumber. Hon. Ben Jones returned to Rose ourg baiurday morning, alter a visit to his property at Otter Rock. Mr. Jones' term os register of the U. S landofiice at Roscburg will soon expire, his successor, J. II. Upton of Coos Bay having been appointed to that position. After which Mr. Jones will work in the interest of his candidacy for the nomination of Congressman for this district. While Mr. Jones will be loyal to the interests of the entire district, we of Lincoln county will feci assured that the interest of this county will be looked after should he succeed in getting the nomination and election. It has been ix or seven years since this was built and it was getting in a dangerous condition. . There is talk of a civic improve ment club being organized by the ladies of Toledo. Smith , wife and children of Toledo passed through for Low er Farm, where Mr. Smith played for the dance given at that place. A large crowd is reported. Z. M. Derrick, county surveyor, was over irom oieaj mesaay on his way to survey on the Euchre Mountain road, where Clarence Al tree has the contract of making a grade at the foot of the Mountain. A large crowd attended the big "Indian 4th of July" dance given at Billy Metcalf's on the night of the 9th. C. S. Davis returned' from Port land alter purchasing a stock of goods for his new business, which he will soon take charge of. We understand he has bought out W. II Miller's mercantile business here at Siletz. ihere has been a great deal of sickness in the community this Winter in the way of colds and Ia- grippe. C. S. Davis and W. H. Williams has a rutabaga on display in Crosno's office which weighs just forty pounds. Mr. Williams wants to know if anybody can beat it.
