Hauling Logs Over New R. R. Last Saturday the first logs were hauled over the new railroad on Depot slough. Just two months and seventeen days from the time work was begun on this road trains were being operated. The road now extends from the Parrish place two and one-fourth miles up De pot into the big timber. While the road bed is new and uneven the train makes a round trio every thirty-five minutes, whicn means that logs will be put into the river at a lively rate and also means that the mill here will always be supplied with logs It will also probably mean more saw mills here. Mr. Miller, the builder, is well pleased with outlook. Monthly Statement of County Treas. Toledo. Or., Juris 1, 1913. Much good can be accomplished in buliding up interest in different lines of school work by continued experience. The following suggestions are offered, arid others solicited from all interested in our schools and the upbuilding of our county: First, that more thought be given to the literary and higher intellec tual work. Second, that all contests be con ducted in a manner to create a spirit of good fellowship among the boys and girls throughout the county, with no confederation what ever of avenging old scores of the past. The people of Toledo regret hav ing to lose this estimable family, but wish them success wherever they may be Who Won? As near as can be determined by the evidenca at hand the married men took the single boys into camp last- Friday to the tuna of S to 0. Of course more scores than this were chalked ua, but scores do not always win a "game. .According to the score card the game was hotly contested from start to gizzard first one side ahead, then the other. In the final frame the score stood 18 to 19 with a little stick work still due the married men, and which, as near as can be ascertained, the "singles" wuld not allow, quitting with the inning hail over, and thereby forfeiting the game by the score of 9 to 0. These two teams will meet again in the near future to get revenge. . The stars of the came were Dr. Morris. George JkClusiey was the official umpire. The game Sunday was another game which is in doubt as to the final score as the scorekeeper could not keep uu. Thq.bestligui'es avail able aive Toledo a slight lead1 which it hopes to maintain through oat the season. Simpson, for Elk City, demonstrated that he is one of the best long distance pitchers still in the game, by pitching 21 innings without a breathing spell, and was in better form when the game wa3 over than when he commenced. Toledo found it necessary to use four pitchers dur ing'the game. Struck out by Elk City, 9; by Toledo 10. Close game. Dr. Morris again showed off to ad vantage by guing in in the ninth frame and winning the game for Toledo. Official umpires Bert Geer and Henry Howell.
