The raiload company discontinued the noon train last Saturday. A. Ford of Newport was a county seat visitor last Monday. Deputy Game Warden Gatenswas up from Newport last Wednesday. Joseph Bryant and family of Siletz were in the city last Monday, Capt. Henry Nice of Lutjens was a passenger on Wednesday morn ing's train. Merchant Henry Lewis went to Portland Wednesday morning to be gone until Monday. Our fishermen have been hav ing great sport among the salmon trout the past few days. Good catches are being made. Miss Blanche Jeffereys returned Saturday evening from Portland and other Valley towns, where she had been visiting the past month. ' Several loads of material for the new steel bridge across the Siltez river at the Agency has been re ceived here. The work of hauling it over will commence right away. L. G. Wesley, the Galloway cattle man, who left this county and moved to Freewater, in Eastern Oregon, was at the State Fair last week with his herd and carried off his usual amount of prizes. The Launch Transit will hereafter make regular trips from Elk City to Newport, stopping at Toledo and way points, every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Leaving Elk City 8 a. m., Toledo 9; return ing, leaving Newport at 2 p. m. We have a splendid, sunny loca tion at Olssonville. Can add another lot beside it at $15 cash. Rickraan & Smith, Newport. Summer and Albert Lakes in Cen tral Oregon are to be made to yield up the wealth of si Its in their waters. A Los Angeles com pany with verv large capital has secured a long lease on 88,000 acres about these lakes and is building a refining plant for evaporating the water. It is estimated thatnotless than 100,000 tons of products will be secured annually. Shipbuilder Walker has the work on the fishing schooner, which he recently sold to W. C. Hoeflein and Tellefson Bros, of Yaquina, about completed and the-machinery is be ing installed. They expect to have the boat feady for service by the first of text week. Mr. Walker will begin the construction of another vessel, a little larger. It Sill also be used as a fishing boat. Plans are well along to plant a large Polish colony in Oregon. The Polish Society of Philadelphia is seeking from 5,000 to 10,000 acres of good land in a body suited for this purpooe and hopes to bring about 258 Polish families here within the coming year.
